Then this thing turned out so evil, I don't know why I'm still surprised )
His months spent in Edelweiss had defined that for him, solidified it, beat him down with it. Things like missions and battles and structure didn't matter to him anymore. His identity as a ninja had been ripped out of him and hung somewhere on meat hooks, and what was left was a carcass laden down with abilities that had no purpose anymore.
That was fine. He didn't need a purpose. His mind wasn't focused anymore--it was fractured, and the edges scraped together horribly as he struggled to find direction. The only thing he knew was the anger he could feel frothing inside him incessantly, anger he didn't know how to handle. He couldn't handle it, so he channeled it. Spit it out upon every monster he encountered night after night, becoming something increasingly less human as time passed.
It was that, more than the memories of their home world, that made Sasuke so reluctant to meet with Sakura. The ides of her seeing him so stripped and shredded was nauseating, but it was too late to back out now. The droplets of his former identity alerted him of her presence outside his door, and he lingered in his apartment, setting down the food he'd started eating, unable to stomach any more.
There was no need to go open the door. She'd come in, just like Naruto had. Just like they always did.

This was Sasuke. He was her teammate, her friend. At least that's what she wanted him to be. But going into this she knew that wasn't all she wanted, damn her heart.
Sasuke could play her like a song, knew which words to say to make her heart become the beat, to make her flow along with his melody. In the last time she had to seen him, it had become painfully clear that he had a wire wrapped around his tongue that was connected straight to her heart. His words could sting, his expression could cripple and send a shock to the hole in her chest. Gods knew that she hadn't seen her heart in the years since he had left. Maybe at first she had thought she had misplaced it, that it would find it's way home eventually. However after all this time, how obvious it had been that it was with him all along, tucked behind his bitter smirks and darkened eyes. He had it, and it was something he didn't even want or possible even didn't knew he had. He would never know how pathetic that made her feel.
She didn't know what to expect when she walked through the door, but no matter what time Sasuke came from, his effect on her wouldn't change. So she harden herself for whatever lay ahead and tried to convince herself into thinking she could fight him if it was necessary.
