Well, we’ve certainly been through some dark and unsettling times, haven’t we? [A slight chuckle, then a pause as though suddenly realizing insensitivity --] Ah, my condolences to those who have lost loved ones during these last few weeks. I am truly very sorry; these recent occurrences are not experiences I would wish upon anyone ( Read more... )

Ah, yes, the Core's location was only discovered in November. I remember that particular set of riots -- travelling to work had even become quite dangerous for a while! And indeed, I agree that letting it be is overlooking the vast research opportunities that could be gained from closer examination. While nothing may come of it, nothing is certainly going to come from simply ignoring a device that is responsible for altering the dimensional threads and bringing life to this city!

[Well, all right, perhaps tinkering it with could have severe negative consequences, but not only would that be buying into AGI propoganda, it wouldn't really be a bad resolution to their situation. A pity that they could not examine it more closely, but not bad. Once the novelty of living in this world had worn off, Ikutsuki was sure he was going to see it was just like the one he had left behind -- or even worse.]

Yet...I suppose people can't help being afraid. It takes brave men to confront the world and the way it works, then try to understand it.

[And from Ikutsuki's point of view? These men are called scientists.]

The understanding must come before trying to force any change- which I believe is the step many seem to be skipping over, in their heads.

In any case, proceeding with due caution would be better than doing nothing at all. For all we know, the core could be deteriorating on its own.

And a catastrophe could occur as a result of such inaction?

Possibly. I attended a lecture about it, actually, at the conference-

Oh? And they spoke of the consequences of the Core's degeneration there?

Of potential consequences- mostly hypothetical theory for worst case scenarios. Still, it's worth considering the serious implications of a trans-dimensional and radioactive device losing stability.

Certainly. Honestly, leaving it be could more dangerous than trying to fix it at this point -- turning a blind eye, or just hoping that things won't get worse won't change anything in the end. Yet ... what can we do about it?

Petition for action?

Hmm. Such an idea certainly does hold merit!

I think it's an effort to be cautious of, however. Newcomers pressuring the government to do anything may not be well received.

It wouldn't have to be posed as pressure as such.

What would you suggest?

A friendly suggestion.

Who, me? It's not really my area of expertise, dealing with the public in such a manner ... isn't there anyone more suited to the task?

It's just that I've raised a bit of a tiff at the health department before- I'm afraid they'd dismiss it.
