As of last night, we've been receiving reports at the hospital that there are creatures- or...some kind of flying mechanisms out in the darkness which have been healing people. There are no projects on public record coming forward to claim their origin.

Now I'll be clear- I am by no means asking anyone to take unnecessary risks upon themselves to ( Read more... )

So you will still be taking your regular patients?

I will, unless I am told otherwise. But I will make every effort to accommodate you.

Not that it's any of my business to butt into your career, of course. I just doubt I'll be able to find another doctor I trust.

Ah- I wouldn't want to press you upon any of my colleagues either, Prosecutor Godot, believe me. I've been told I am a man of exceptional tolerance.

Ha...! The rumors of your bedside manner are not exaggerated either, I see.

Oh? What rumors?

Oh, nothing specific. But if I can put up with you, there's got to be some kind of exceptional talent in the mix.

If you can put up with me!

...Mr. Wright and I reached a settlement last week, by the way. Before that whole- criminal trial, with the Joker.

Oh, come now. I'm a regular sweetheart.

Did you now? Good. Nothing too painful for you, I hope?

I'm sure If I were barrista at any of your usual haunts, you'd be my favorite customer. [No really, you may be a difficult patient, but you're still one of my favorites anyway.]

No, I- Really, the settlement is over projections for routine developmental check-ups, a few sessions of family counseling, and the hospital's just putting me through review again...politics.

It's a step back for me, all of this. I used to be a Medical Director of the entire Health and Welfare Bureau, and Chief of Research...but cities like this make the needs of a balanced and micromanaged society like Romdeau seem so narrowed. So organized and simplified.

It's a bit like realizing oneself as a big fish from a small bowl. Humbling.

Glad to hear it.

This place has a tendency to inspire a little career-related introspection that way. I'm still not used to having anyone to report to when it comes to legal matters.

All a little fish can do to keep afloat, some days.

You worked independently, back home?

...stay afloat. And it's funny, I never really considered myself ambitious- but you have to be, or you'll be exploited-

It's strange. Citizenship was something I had taken for granted- that it was in the public interest to live lives of utility and peaceful purpose.

Defense attorneys work independently, or as a firm. Clients hire them privately, or they can work pro bono as a public defender. In any case, there's no central "office" to report to.

I think fewer people than would be ideal think about the public interest around here.

I see- How long did you work as a Prosecutor, back home?

Nor did most Romdeau citizens outside of the administration, but there were controls in place-

....Well, Edgeworth would call it something like Socialist Tyranny, but the quality of living here is terribly substandard, in many ways. Particularly on uneducated people, and many of the newcomers who didn't come into good positions so easily.

Only about... six months. I was mostly permitted to do my own thing there, too. Nobody wanted to tell me otherwise.
