[It's just about sunset and someone's nowhere close to home, having lost track of time and splashing around in the slush covered streets, procrastinating on his studies. He's had a great day pretending to be a zombie and is out trying to familiarize the puppy with a walking route, since he's settling into the responsibilities of having a pet.]So ( Read more... )

Um... not really? I only heard about it after getting here. Is it really that important?

Depends on who you ask, but for most people it's a pretty big deal around.

Really? It seems like there are a lot of holidays around... Thanksgiving, then Halloween, now Christmas...

Aren't you a good kid.

People usually ask for stuff they want, though! I mean, you can't exactly gift-wrap world peace and call it a day, right?

I don't know-- maybe someone here actually could? We might not know until we ask. I heard that one Christmas people stopped fighting for a day and even enemies shared food and drinks.

And that doesn't require magic, it just needed for people to agree on something. Wish hard enough, and it might happen!

Stopped fighting for a day?

[A loud laugh.]

Someone's gotta be pulling your leg, kid! That's impossible. Not everybody in the world even celebrate it.

He doesn't watch us sleep!

[A pause. Maybe it wouldn't matter if she could or not, but-]

...It'd be nice if we could talk to people from home, though.

There's a song that says he does. And apparently he knows how we've been through the year.

That'd be nice, I think. I'm pretty sure everyone here is at least missing someone.

I've never heard a song like that!

What about you?

Really? I keep hearing songs about him in stores! 'He sees you when you're sleeping, he knows when you're awake' and all that. That just sounds like of creepy to me. If it's true, I'm not going to be sleeping on Christmas Eve.

Am I missing someone? I figured everyone was.

[Mags is at Skye, about to start his shift, so there is the normal medical/emergency clinic background noise]

You're a wonderful lad, Hope. You are close to home, right?

I didn't celebrate it as a boy - I still don't, although most of my household does - but the 'man' would be Father Christmas, St Nicholas, Santa Claus, and others. Basically, so the story goes, he's an old man who watches over the world's children and between Christmas Eve and Christmas Day - December 24th and 25th - leave presents and sweets for the good children, and nothing or coal for the naughty ones.

The part o him watching you sleep I believe comes from a song penned in the early nineteen-thirties in America. It's mostly just a reminder for children to be good.

Close to home? Not really, why? [It's cloudy, he can't tell the time.]

How does he even know who's been good or naughty, though? It sounded more like a warning than a reminder, though-- I mean, the song sounded cheerful enough, but wow, the wording of everything.

Lad, get home or somewhere safe - it's going to be dark very soon.

And I always assumed it was magic or their parents telling them. Nothing malicious about it, although yes, it does sound creepy.

[That catches his attention. Wow, the days get shorter and shorter.]

Already? It's-- [And he takes a moment to scoop up the wet puppy.] It didn't seem that late!

[But he's turning around now to walk home.]

That makes it seem like a conspiracy, though. Like the parents on in on it, too!

Do you have a Christmas wish, Castiel?

I do not wish for things.

Everyone wishes for things. A lot of people want to get home. Don't you have something you really want? Enough to wish for?
