3 [video]: Equal Helpings Of Pie And Reflection

Dec 13, 2010 14:59

["Benjamin" is in the underground mall, eating a piece of what looks like berry pie with ice cream, courtesy of the pie baking contest. It seems he's gotten some 21st-Century style clothes, a puffy parka and knitted toque, his cheeks apple-red from having been out recently in the cold.]

I always counted myself lucky - my friends back home were in the right industries and let me lend a hand for a little cash, but everyone knew there were folks that didn't have enough. Not enough food, not enough jobs, not enough to make ends meet. That was called the Great Depression, and I guess in a few years there were some government things that helped and then there was a big war. Seven years from now... a lot of people are gonna die. Nothing someone like me can do about it. [He takes a little piece of pie, and a perfectly measured little bit of ice cream onto his spoon, and eats it very slowly.]

There is so much food here. I know it's not possible, but I wish I could bring folks from back home here. They'd really get a kick out of it. Such a spectacle, and it's a shame not everyone's gonna live to see this time. Everything has changed so much.

...I tried to play a game at the arcade and it was too confusing. Guess I'll stick with card games, dominoes and chess. What kind of games did you like to play at home, Siren's Port?
