That "guy" has been here for the longest time. No, the one of whom I speak is the other clone. My Brother.

I can live with them. I'd rather Brother was here than that he was lost to the aether.

It's a figure of speech. Traditionally, the aether was the material that filled everything outside of the planet - the air breathed by the gods. It was also an alchemical compound. When something is lost to the aether, it's gone entirely and permanently.

...Brother? No. I was the one that died that day.

...heh. Close enough. [There's a click as it switches to private] They injected Brother with a virus capable of targetting specific genetic codes. From the moment I met Brother... I was done for.

Aren't there cures to those kinds of things? You still had a few hours.

There was no cure. One by one, my unit died from it. I thought I was safe because it didn't take me straight away. Apparently I was wrong. I thought the same as you - I wanted the cure. But the only ones who had it were the ones that sent Brother to me with the virus... so I never got it.

[Therein lay the question.]

I don't know why it hasn't killed me yet. It's there, inside me even now. All I can think was that something triggered it back there. Brother won't talk about it, so I don't know.
