Attack on Government Building Stirs Worry

Yesterday, long after most of the employees had gone home for the day, there was an attack on one of the government office buildings. A break-in at the prosecutors' office left several injured but none dead. One of the guards is in critical condition after the attack, though it is believed he will pull through.

Sometime round eight there were multiple intruders, who then proceeded to cause both property damage, and to attack the employees remaining in the building. The suspects are currently at large and the police are currently trying to find them using an eye witness account. They believe that the intruders might be linked to other crimes in Siren's Port and will release more information when available.

It seems the writer of the article attempted to get an interview with the lesser injured victims but were asked to leave the hospital before they could get a comment.

The city is expected to put out something on the incident within the week.

Eve chose. She was the first to choose. From then on out, history can be counted in choices, a hundred million different trembling declamations of free will that have brought us to this place. They’ve brought me. They’ve brought you. The choices you made, your parents, even complete strangers - every one of them, snarling outwards like the branches of a tree, or perhaps twisting inwards like an impossible knot, have made this moment in time what it is.

I thought about this at the Pork Pig Pick and Chew.

At this fine establishment (BYOB, readers!), before you stretch the corpses of those animals chosen for tonight’s revelry. You point to the animal you want, the meat you want, and they place it on a plate (styrofoam) and give you utensils (plastic) and allow you to dine al fresco. I meditated over these creatures, as you would have - how were they different from us? Did they too make choices that lead them to the grill cover? Which part looked most delicious? (The hock, smoked red and delicious, impossibly flavorful.) And perhaps, my thoughts likewise turned to myself, my life and my choices to this part. As they’d chosen to wander too close to the farmer who chose them for the slaughter, would I too do so? Would I choke on a bone? Would the thick fat cause my heart to stop? Would my ex-wife have liked this place? (No, I scream to myself, no - she’d have claimed to hate it just to spite me!) Indeed, as I chewed the gristle from the bone, I thought -

Was I happy?

No matter. No matter! I was in that moment. I was at that place, with a hock in one hand and a wine box in the other. I had made my choice, and I was alive. Pick and Chew, I chose you.

Bring a blanket; ants are numerous.
