[The feed switches on to reveal a hotel room, where two men are standing in front of the laptop- Tonegawa and another man in a suit, the latter with his back to the screen but nonetheless radiating uncertainty. Tonegawa, meanwhile, is perfectly at ease, almost arrogantly so- he’s smiling with all the confidence of a man who’s just drawn a royal flush.]

This is completely insane. You’re the damn receptionist. How am I supposed to trust you with-

[Tonegawa simply gives a smooth laugh and puts his hand on the man’s shoulder in a way that would almost be comforting, were it not for the faintly predatory edge to his smile.]

Sir, you’ve seen my record. You’re truly questioning whether or not I can get the job done for you? I’m not an idiot. You have money, power, status. If I were to fail you… where would that leave me?

[The man seems unable to respond- and by this point is halfway to the door courtesy of Tonegawa’s ‘friendly’ pushing anyway.]

You can trust me.

[Then the man is outside, and he shuts the door on him with a satisfying click. Tonegawa pauses in front of the door for a moment, still smiling to himself, then he gives a little sigh and trails back to the computer. He adjusts the lapels of his suit before sitting down at the desk.]

Business is such a wonderful thing. A rigged game of Russian roulette, where money is a bullet and life is weighed out against a blank cheque: that’s what a meaningful transaction is. Don’t be naïve enough to suppose you sell a service or an idea. You sell yourself. When they hand over their wallets, it’s for you.

[He breaks into a lazy grin.]

My clientele is never dissatisfied with what I have to offer them. I guess you’ve either got it or you don’t.

[ooc: Tonegawa’s effected by the event, and thus everything he says will waver in and out of seeming totally 100% believable and truthful to whoever he’s talking to. And literal, too. Including his stupid metaphors.]
