Harry and Ruth AU

When the post arrived Harry was in his office, reading through the day's newspapers. It was bound to contain the usual mix of junk mail and bills and nothing that could possibly contain any hidden meaning. Not that it stopped him from looking. But the post would likely keep, he didn't need to rush downstairs to get it. And besides, it was no use racing Ruth to the post either.

He turned back to the paper. There was a piece in it about the friendly relations between Britain and Russia. It was all very nice, but also very boring. The only newsworthy items were politics and they mainly consisted of politicians not having a clue how to run the country. There wasn't even a hint of any interesting activity reading between the lines.

With fingers now black he folded the last paper up and sat back in his chair with a sigh. Some days it was hard to remember why he'd agreed to retire. Fortunately, a reminder was at hand. He left his office and went to find Ruth.
