More communication stuffs

I'm feeling disappointed that one of my coworkers who is in Paris had a 3rd party talk with me about his concerns. My group is responsible for several thousand pages of documentation and part of that is well over 1500 technical screen captures. The coworker in Paris is the localization guru and he is concerned that I am not "on board" with improvement initiatives to help make the localization of our documentation less painful. The thing is, I AM on board -- at least mentally and in spirit. I agree with the concept and the objectives. However, I don't have the resources to do the work that needs to be done. And it isn't as easy as hiring a contractor because the work needs to be done by folks who are familiar with our product and documentation. Sort of a big needle in a haystack.

I feel sad that he did not engage me himself with his concerns... and he just got back from holiday so perhaps he asked the other person to address his concerns because he needed to go on vacation and get away (he's a very can-do, stress-bunny kinda genius guy, so I can see where time off/out would be a necessary thing for him) and he really wanted to make sure his concerns were conveyed to me. From that perspective, I do not feel as disappointed or sad... AND, if that was the case, I wish he'd have conveyed that as part of the message. Pooh.

I wrote to him today to reassure him that I am indeed "on board" and then proceeded to remind him of my time/resource constraints as well as update him on progress that his concerns ARE being addressed not only by my words but by actual implementation. I am hoping that this communication lessens his concern about me and my team and our progress toward the common goal.
