I was truly stunned.
Recently I passed some veterans selling poppies today at the mall. As I fumbled for change to buy one, a person who I was with asked me what those flowers were for. Raising money for some kind of cancer?
I did a double take. This is a person I know very well and respect. Did they really have NO idea what the poppies symbolized?
I expressed my disapointment, which was not very nice. So I apologized and corrected myself- I am truly disapointed that in this day and age in the Capital, there are people who are ignorant of Remembrance Day.
Who do I blame? Parents? The media? Peers in general? Is there some sort of political motive to keep kids ignorant of this in schools in Québec?
Oh well. I didn't have any change anyway.
