Lol, you know London Drain explorers are getting a bit spoilt by all the 160 year old Victorian brickwork when they cant be bothered exploring a newly found Deep Level Relief tunnel that joins three of the original Lost River tunnels together.... just cos its made of concrete ( Read more... )

Concrete? I'm up for concrete! Do you mean the North London Flood Relief that goes from Hampstead to Deep Ochre? I read somewhere that it goes all the way to Abbey Mills though... maybe the one near the top of DO is something else but it's a big RCP... http://sleepycity.net/photo/1380/in/post/135

Zero and I popped into it near H&I station two years ago but Z got bored.

Nope, this is known as the Western Deep Level Sewer on teh map... in reality its a very deep storage tunnel that runs beneath the big cylindrical shaft tanks that you'll find in The Egg, Westbourne and Tyburn, just before you reach the hydraulic flaps in those tunnels. It then runs underneath the Thames to the tank attached to the d/s end of Rubix.

It was bone dry too. Only drama is that its access is a pair of joined triangle covers in the middle of a side street, so no easy lift cover access.

Ahhh! I'd been wondering what was at the bottom of the Westbourne can! I think it was Steve D who stuck his head in the little outlet at the bottom and said it was "full of crap". Not sure if there was an actual way through there. I love concrete :)
