An Ode to Flammie
I don't do any writing for a week and a half, and then suddenly I find myself doing this:
Yup. I've given up on Square ever making Secret of Mana merchandise, so I'm making a Flammie statue for myself. This is mostly because I've been hanging out in Lincraft's paint and plaster section on Friday evenings while waiting for the DJ Max Technika machine to be free. This always happens when I wander into arts and crafts stores. I get ideas.
But... asdfljksadlkfjsklfj, Flammie! I'm not sure if any Seiken Densestu fans are on my flist anymore - I have not really been terribly immersed in Mana fandom on LJ. So who is Flammie, you may ask? Flammie is maybe my most beloved character ever. I adore Flammie about as much as you can adore a fictional animal! This is partially a side effect of my enduring affection for the Seiken Densetsu series (Better known as the Mana series in the West), but mostly because Flammie is awesome.
It's difficult to choose the best Flammie moment. There was that scene in Seiken Densetsu 3 where she gets angry at being mistaken as 'The Father of the Winged Ones'. That was pretty hilarious. A dragon getting upset at mistaken gender! XD Then there's also this awesome scene in Dawn of Mana where she shoots massive freaking laser beams from her mouth while looking adorable.
I think that's a pretty compelling argument for Flammie right there.

So, yes. I have resorted to making my own merchandise Square Enix. :| This is what you force me to. Obviously it's still a work-in-progress, and will not be splayed out flat as though she is dead. Unfortunately, the frame was not strong enough so she wound up kind of squished, with nubby little legs, and the original pose didn't hold either! D: The wings, for one, were in a much more interesting arrangement prior to leaving it overnight for drying. I suppose I should be grateful it hasn't completely fallen to pieces at this point, though there's still time. I will pretend I was going for the pose in this old piece of fanart instead. *coughs*
But! The exciting side effect of this is my flatmate, who is a real artist with actual sculpting experience, has been looking over my shoulder with jealous interest. I have casually suggested that perhaps for the price of materials and some caffeinated beverages, she might want to try her hand at making a statue more worthy of Flammie herself. :3 We will see how my evil plan progresses. In the meantime, I will treat this as a practice run.
So! That's what I've been doing the past week or so. Oh, and making good progress on FFXIII sidequests too. Only four Cie'th stone missions left! Attacus the Undying should not be giving me so much trouble though. I must accept that perhaps he is not meant to be staggered. Worse than a freaking Tonberry with escalation. :|
