It's Ash Wednesday tomorrow apparently, which means there are approximately six weeks until Easter. Yet Easter eggs have already been on the shelves since the first of January.

Let's spend a moment of silence contemplating that. Easter eggs came out in January. Easter is usually in April.

Let's not go into how chocolate and Easter just don't go together at all--in the religious sense, anyway. And the only reason I know it's Ash Wednesday tomorrow is because the mother reminded me not to eat out of the hours and no I cannot eat meat or sweets or anything that isn't boring. D:

Also, That's when milk chocolate is
covered in white spots and starts to taste like carob-scented cardboard. How do you know this. D8

My condolences for lack of homemade lunch. PERHAPS YOU CAN INDULGE IN THE WHOLE BUYING LUNCH THING. ARE THERE AMAZING STUFF AVAILABLE? :D?

Basic chemistry. :D Also, I have eaten old chocolate lots of times! One such example being when my flatmate didn't eat her Easter eggs for months and so I started systematically stealing eating them to see how long it would take her to notice that they were gone. :D Ummm, the last few weren't that great. I WAS A HUNGRY STUDENT, I WOULD EAT ANYTHING ONCE I WAS SURE IT WOULDN'T KILL ME.

Also, what? I know about the meat thing, but this is the first I've heard about not eating out of hours? What hours are those? :S Have I really been away from religion for so long I've finally managed to start forgetting the more absurd rituals?

WTF. Like even before Valentine's, they have Easter chocolate out? Wow. Australia is worse than America when it comes to pre-stocking for holidays, then. Unless the fact that I just haven't been to Wal-Mart for the last couple of months means that I simply haven't seen Easter decorations. O_o

But as for your theory, that would work on me, if I had money to buy Easter chocolate. Because Easter chocolate is definitely better than Valentine's chocolate. Mmm Cadbury eggs.

No, you are correct. They don't generally start that early-- usually, they flood you with Valentine's Day stuff for an extra month instead. (And then Easter stuff is out for two months.)
At least here in New England.

They start that early here. :| Valentine's Day isn't as big for some reason - there's a marketing push, but it's much shorter, only a week or two. Must be an Australian thing. And hey, since we don't have thanksgiving like ths States, we also get Christmas stuff in SEPTEMBER.

But yes. I complain, but I too buy Cadbury Creme eggs.

Hm, I wish Valentine's Day was so small here. It's stupid, imho.
I WAS NOT EVEN THINKING OF THANKSGIVING. I am so sorry. (Sorry, best holiday after Halloween. I love cooking all that, and I really love eating it!)

so THAT'S why they start selling chocolate early! I never realized that! that's pretty sneaky of them.
I know a lot of people (myself included) who'd buy those cadbury creme eggs just because of how delicious they are.

also, about the cocoa separating...I don't know how to stop that D:
I made chocolate once by melting down chocolate bars, and it separated in a week, instead of the month it usually takes. do you have any idea why that happened?

You can't really stop it! You can only slow it down with refrigerator. It's what happens when the emulsifiers (the chemicals that let the two substances mix evenly) break down. It happens naturally over time, but heat breaks the chains faster. So that would be why your melting down of chocolate reduced the lifespan. It's also why chocolate doesn't have such a great shelf life here in Queensland at this time of year. :|

Since January, really? I've seen the progression as Hallowe'en --> Christmas --> Valentine's --> Easter chocolate sales. :/ And to add to your conspiracy theory, I think they just repackage the old chocolate into 'new holiday-themed' wrapping. :O Who knows how old the chocolate you eat really is.

I DO NOT EXAGGERATE. Went food shopping on the second of January, saw it then, was amazed. Have been stewing on it weekly ever since.

They do Valentine's concurrently with the Easter stuff here, possibly more sane there. And the Valentine's promotions only tend to take up that little fornight between 'back to school sales' and the 14th of Feb. We don't really do Halloween properly either, so it's pretty much just Christmas from September to December. :/ MADNESS.

XD You're right! Wouldn't surprise me if some of the cheap stuff is left over from last Easter.

Tinsel is Robot poo. I guess you can at least buy tinsel early without it going bad. :/ BUT YES. It's insane. We need to adopt Halloween or something, just to break it up.
