Starting work next week. Yeah
Actually unpaid work for this week, but is part of the shadowing required. I was informed today that I got one of the worst schools in all of Tampa :-(
1/5th of the parents are in jail, drug dealers try to make deals and break in, and I am forbidden to send kids to the office!! WTF?! So what am I supposed to do when I have a student like this yelling to my face?
Yes, folks that happens on a frequent and sometimes daily basis. Especially if they know they can't be sent to the office. They are free to do whatever they want.
But this was my aunt who used to work as a teacher years ago and is bitter. She is negative about the profession and is bitter over NCLB student testing. I am sure things have changed since she retired.
Oddly every teacher I know has been negative about the profession and I find that odd? Except the ones I worked with in Alaska when I volunteered.
I am happy and optimistic. The pay is surprisingly good and so are the benefits for starting out. After 1.5 years I plan to move anyway to a nicer school setting where I can earn more money. Perhaps Alaska or Colorodo?
