This entry is about last saturday.
Backstory - Caleb makes wonderful fish curry. I don't know this cause he makes it spicy and I don't like spicy foods, but everyone else raves about it. However, in order to make this wonderful godly curry, he uses a curry paste that he can only find at one oriental store that resides in harrisburg (or right outside it anyways). Well, after curry last week, he ran out, so a trip was in order. This is where the story begins.
Harrisburg - saturday caleb and i and zach and kiran split up into two groups. zach and kiran went to get work pants for kiran, lunch for both of them, and then taking kiran to work. caleb and I went to harrisburg to get curry. It was about 11.30 or so and I hadn't had breakfast yet, so i half jokingly asked caleb if he wanted to drive. (Note: Caleb's car is a mess and can really only get him and only himself to and from work comfortably, so we were going to end up taking my car) He surprisingly agreed and as i ate my poptart, i taught him to shift. it was an adventure and he had the most trouble getting into third actually, but that was the gear being touchy. anyways, we stopped in a clear parkinglot to practice and he got a pretty good hang on it. Then I took over the rest of the way. We found the oriental store and got the curry paste, but all that only took about 30 minutes of driving and 5 minutes of buying, and we weren't ready to go back yet so we went to the used paperback store right next door to the oriental place and got books!!!!! YAY BOOKS! Of the titles I recognized (or picked out) were Ender's Game (duh! picked it out for caleb to have, cause he should) as well as the Earthsea trilogy. Caleb asked about any good lunch spots and about other bookstores and he actually got an answer for a hardback used bookstore down about 4-5 miles. We went to a Pizza Grille for lunch and it was good. Good conversation. Found out that prolly the biggest contention we've got right now is what religion to raise children if for some unbeknownst reason we had some. Anyways, after lunch we headed out looking for this other used bookstore. So we're cruisin' along and we notice a white car with some weird lookin' lights on top of it and we're wondering if it's a cop, cause it kinda looks like one, and as we pass it, it is and we're commenting on how strange the cop car looks and then I check my rearview to see that it's left it's waiting position and is about 2 cars behind me. Now, i don't know what the speed limit on this road is, cause i've never been on it before, so it takes a bit to find a sign that says it's 40, so I drop to a steady 40 when before i may've been going about 50, but definatly not more than that! The car is still there. I get this sinking feeling it's following me, but its lights aren't on [yet] and there's still a truck between him and me. Then, the lights go on, and he cuts around the truck and i'm like, "Yup, he was following me. Damnit..." especially cause i was having such a good day... I turn to caleb and as I'm getting out my stuff, i apologized to him that i would prolly cry after this, just cause, well, ya know. but it takes a full minute or so before the cop gets out of his car and walks up to my rolled down window. Cop: Good afternoon, ma'am. How are you doing today? Me thinking: I was having a wonderful date with my boyfriend and now i'm getting pulled over to possibly get a speeding ticket from you, i'm scared shitless right now, thanks. What I actually said: Fine, sir. And yourself? (gods, I sounded like caleb!) Cop: I'm doing well, thank you. I pulled you over because I thought that I noticed your registration was out of date, but it was just dirty and in fact, you're fine> Me [heaving sigh of relief]: Yea, I park under a tree...(which i do, and Lou really was pretty dirty) Cop: I'm sorry for the inconvinience and I hope you have a better day. Me: Thank you, sir. and I drive off (still only at 40 mph) and we get to the bookstore about a minute from the place I got pulled over. Caleb was very happy bout the whole thing, partly cause he said before things would be alright with the cop and much moreso that we'd found the hardback used bookstore which was having a big big sale b/c of memorial day weekend! Me, i was still scared shitless, shaking for a good 5-10 minutes afterwards and still wanted to cry, though i don't think i did b/c that bookstore was amazing! It was a converted garage to which caleb noted was such a good use for it ^_^. We found alot of good stuff there and the owner was very VERY nice. Caleb told her, as he did the other bookstore people, about how he'd been looking for a really good used bookstore around the york area for a while and she gave him a whole pamphlet of used bookstores in the harrisburg, york, and lancaster area to which caleb was excedingly thrilled! When we first came in and found a couple books, we went to the counter and the owner asked if she could help us with anything and caleb was like "a basket? *grin*" and she was completely understanding, didn't laugh like we were, but smiled knowingly and pointed to wear we'd come in and there was a stack of grocery baskets ready for use. We filled it. Full. Spent another $30 at that store, but between both stores, we came away with two full bags of books, a list of other bookstores, and this story.
