Canon Point: Revelation, chapter 11.
Setting: Hoooo boy.

Red vs. Blue kind-sorta takes place in the universe of the Halo, roughly set against the backdrop of the Human-Covenant ( AKA: Religious Fanatic Aliens r' Us ) war. Most of it takes place in a canyon pretty damn isolated in the rest from the rest of the world, or indeed, the rest of the known universe, where two arbitrarily divided armies are apparently fighting out a human civil war, battling for control over some bases that -- really don't seem to have much strategic value. Most of these soldiers seem kind of resigned to the apparent pointlessness of their job, and their everyday lives consisted of trashtalking the other team and being annoyed by random mercenary "Freelancers ( ... )

Personality:"Dude? You guys are some cold motherfuckers."
-- Private Leonard L. Church. Red vs. Blue: Reconstruction, episode six.

Wash is a lot of things, but cold motherfucker is probably a good start.

Wash is a hardened military operative, and this makes up the core of who he is -- when you're in the army, when you're in the army special ops, and especially when you're in the army super-top-secret-special-ops-unit-which-pushes-the-boundaries-of-war-ethics, being a cold motherfucker is pretty much what it's about. He takes war, violence and fighting in his stride, and infact feels very at home on a battlefield. Years of training have taught him to be ruthlessly efficient and deadly, alone or in a squad, and while he was never the best of Freelancer's operatives, he's still capable of taking out an enemy squadron by himself without breaking a sweat, maybe even a missile-launching helicopter or two. With that kind of a lifestyle, there's very little time to stop and mourn the dead, and very little time to think about the moral ( ... )

So yeah, Wash is done playing the nice guy. He's done with trust and loyalty and that whole noble thing, he's done with all this shit, and there's a bigger plan, there's always a bigger plan to keep marching on towards his objective ( which is, ultimately, revenge against Freelancer for that crazy-thing ), but right now he's just a little tired of everything. He's tired of negotiating, tired of diplomacy, tired of trying to do things the right way and trying to have a vague moral compass when people who do things the wrong way keep getting the best of him. He's had a long couple of months in prison to think on it.

And he'd negotiated his way out, with a pretty little price tag, but Wash knows that it can't be that easy, that the Chairman that got him out was also the one who put him there to begin with. He has no interest in being screwed over, againHe used to be pretty damn touchy about people calling him crazy, talking about the Project, about the Director, about Epsilon, and he still is, but it's different. It's not that he ever ( ... )

Abilities and Weaknesses:Wash is still human, but he's essentially a supersoldier. While possessing no supernatural abilities of any kind, he does however have that bitchin' armor, which amplifies his already significant aptitude as a soldier to a ridiculous degree. It makes him stronger, faster, a lot harder to kill, and basically, it'd be a really bad idea to piss him off. He's regarded as average, among Freelancer operatives, not the greatest but not terrible either, but he still managed to take out a missile-launching helicopter on his own, from the ground, armed with nothing but a battle rifle ( ... )

Wash was released from prison after the EMP on the condition that he basically jump ship to the Chairman's side of things, which he had very little difficulty doing, seeing as how bringing the Director down was really his main aim to begin with. The only problem might be that what he wants in terms of revenge might be a bit more -- personal, and the Chairman's approach too distant and too fucking legal for his taste, and he's still very much distinctly toying around with the idea of taking Epsilon and running for the hills to take justice in his own hands ( ... )

But this- this body? Second one this month. He didn't exactly know him ( it's a military program, no time for buddying around, just fucking shoot then get the fuck out of the way ), and even if he did -- that’s the thing. Wash doesn't even really remember how long he's been in the goddamn army, but when you're in it this long- there's no room for emotion when you see a dead comrade's face. one minute to mourn, suck it up, move on- and in this case, take the AI. But the last job he had was less than a week ago, and- Wash knows they think he's crazy ( and he isn't why won't anyone listen to him ), but there's something going on. There's a reason why the Project was successful while it lasted, and it churned out superhuman soldiers, just the kind the army needed- and two of them, dead so quickly, so easily, without that much trace of a fight? Armour enhancements gone, and- fuck it, this one's AI is gone too, he realized. This couldn't be a coincidence. Something was hunting them down ( ... )
