It's one of the most important jobs. Fixing the suit that Soundwave had gone off in when he... exploded. Finding ways to make it safe, so that such a thing could never happen again. Yes, there was the advantage that the other Decepticon had been returned to a completely organic state, but that really wasn't enough for him. Simply because a bomb could not be planted within the Decepticon's person did not mean a thing. Just knowing that the suit itself could be used for something like what the Major had done before, was enough to make Shockwave want to go over every inch of safety features he could think of. Human bodies were fragile enough, and death and injury were always painful. He'd told himself he wouldn't loose Soundwave again, so what better way than to improve upon the suit.
At least then, if he was not around, the communications officer could use it to protect himself.
It wasn't easy, materials were difficult to get a hold of. Tools. The exact item he wanted. His own abilities could be used for repairing it. Improving it. Which did lessen the need for certain tools, but there was still a lot to do.
He looks over the suit that's sprawled out on the floor. A lot of damage had been done to it. This was going to take breems.
And a lot of paint.
