Sarah had been gone too long for him to really, truly believe that she was alive, but he could still hope at the very least. Maybe she was-- god, he really, really hoped she was, and at least this way, well... He couldn't just leave her there without knowing what happened. He had to go in there, had to make sure that he tried, because she'd suffered enough here as it was. Their last conversation had been the worst thing ever to happen before this, too, and he wouldn't forgive himself if something happened and she never came back.
Delta's a warm, minty tingle in the back of his head and he just holds onto that as he and Vandal make their way through, the latter hacking the teleporter, and then they're in, and he hopes they're not too late.
