When the ground cannot reveal where Skyfire might be, the sky is the next place to attempt to find him. It's a little more difficult, Thane finds, to track a flying man than it is one who walks.
Still, he is successful. It's hard to not see a large white-haired man gliding through the air like it's not much of a trick, that it comes so naturally for him.
The glowing contrail is kind of a dead giveaway, anyhow. Still, that's a voice he didn't exactly expect to hear right now. He stops, peering around, searching the buildings below.
The drell certainly knows how to blend in, but he does eventually spot him in the low-light, allowing himself to slowly descend. He gets close enough, but he doesn't land. He has a feeling what this conversation will be about, and he feels more comfortable even hovering just enough. Being grounded feels too much like a trap sometimes. Aside from that, he exudes much more confidence this way, hardly as clumsy and awkward.
Honestly it feels like he's about to be in some kind of trouble. Thane has that almost parental way about him. That tone that makes the shuttle want to wilt.
He glides closer, just out of reach, and mumbles an almost inaudible greeting.
Thane folds his arms behind his back as he slowly approaches Skyfire, watching him. Calmly, but distantly. If he is angry, it is impossible to tell. Perhaps it is the cold distance in his tone that can imply enough.
And his feet touch the ground without argument. Augh. Krios has that intensity about him that just dares someone to argue. The shuttle manages to look quite a bit smaller as he steps forward, eyes glowing sullenly behind his glasses.
This is the part where he gets talked to about all the unpleasant things, he's sure. No doubt about his treatment of Shockwave. There's some indignant anger at the thought, but he's calmed himself enough that it's easy to quash that almost immediately.
Thane's body noticeably relaxes, as does his expression. His arms lift and spread out in an offering, understanding that Skyfire is more of a physical person than he's been able to express properly; not many people are very close or accepting enough for an embrace on occasion.
It has more of an impact on him than he'd care to admit. Like a kick to the chest. Usually he'd readily accept the gesture, but right now he just wobbles over and leans into the drell like a limp noodle.
"Not great," He mutters miserably into the assassin's shoulder.
"No, I figure not," he murmurs, wrapping his arms around Skyfire's waist. Eventually, one hand raises to smooth out the man's hair. The way it tickles on his hand has always been a source of fascination for him and other species.
Thane gently lowers them both to sit on concrete roof. He shifts Skyfire's position so he can rest his head on his lap.
Alright. Physical contact is nice. It's been forever since anyone was that willingly close. Alejandro had given him a hug, but that had been stiff and awkward.
Just like this he could sleep without discomfort.
But oh. Now what to say? He'd been so angry, all of it had just fallen out before. Now he's on the spot and what does he say? Thane's life is harder by so much. He doesn't feel he has the right to say anything to him, lest it come off as petty whining.
"I..." He swallows an anxious lump in his throat and just shakes his head.
A low, gentle chuckle rumbles from Thane's throat; he brushes his fingers through the scientist's hair, meaning to be comforting. To be peaceful. He knows Skyfire trusts him, but he wants him to understand that as well.
"Is it not important to you? Then that is enough. As such, please -- speak to me, my friend."
Oh, he could just forget everything right now. Nobody has ever been this kind to him. Even Starscream's affections had been. Lacking. And they had been lovers. He winces, feeling that seed of bitterness settle a little deeper.
"I don't know how to start," he laughs darkly, "Now that I have an audience."
He'll try.
"For all the good I try to do, I am... sad. All the time. I have not been like this before. I thought if I ignored it, it would stop. I told myself I was fine with handling the emotional output of these forms. That I was stronger than Shockwave and S- than Shockwave. Now it just-" He looks away, feeling more shame than anything, "It consumes me and turns to anger and resentment."
"I see." Bangs are brushed from Skyfire's eyes. "Then perhaps my evaluation... was wrong. I had always been under the impression that you handled your emotions as well as any sentient organic. Although you are moved to tears at times, it was understandable."
Eventually, his hand just rests on Skyfire's head. "You are not broken. You are damaged, as are any of us, but not broken. I was incorrect about you. It is not just Shockwave who requires my assistance, but you as well. And I will try to do this for you, drele, but I cannot assure perfection.
"But please. If you have more to say, then speak. My time is yours right now."
"I've kept my silence. We all have our problems. I didn't mean to saddle anyone with my own," But this is better than being stuck head-wise into a vent up to his ankles in sharpie.
"He needs it more. I've always been fine on my own," Skyfire winces, "I'd not turn you down, though. I suppose I just. I envy him. Things seem to come so easily to him, and all he ever does is act petulant and nasty. Sometimes I feel there is some futility in trying so hard. It's been this way since they woke me out of the ice. They woke me and I fought in their silly little war and then they left me frozen again until they needed me," It's the first time he's actually talked about when he woke with anyone.
"And Shockwave? He conducted cruel experiments on the mech I loved. Nobody ever punished him for it," he barks a bitter snort, "In the end, Starscream cheated on me anyways. Played me for a fool and was just as bad."
Oh. Well that had come out a bit easier than he'd thought.
"Context would assist, but it is up to you if you wish to speak," Thane assures gently. "I know little about your history or your culture. I can take basic facts and work with them, but it is not the same as grasping the whole picture."
Thane lifts his hand away from Skyfire's head. "Whichever you intend to do. Tell, or not tell. But I present to you the opportunity to indulge my curiosity."
Well. He's started, and Thane is very convincing with a kind touch. So Skyfire explains to him. About the war, about who he was before that, Starscream and being frozen for five-million years. Waking up to an entirely different world. That is distant enough. It's when he speaks about The City, and what had happened when he was on Sacrosanct before that is far more difficult
( ... )
"I will not defend Shockwave. Understand that, drele." The drell sits back a little as he looks down at his friend. "I know him to not be so innocent, even before your tale. My promise to kill him should I need to is still in effect. However, I also know him to not be so unpleasant when he is complacent
( ... )
He practically has to be pried away from Thane's lap, he's so in need of the contact he whines as he's pushed up. The words still buzz in his ears a little, but he knows better than to be blinded by that right now.
"I understand. I will do my best in that respect. But he must do likewise and not set upon me in the same manner. Just promise me-" He can feel himself bristle, "He will not take you away from me. You are the best friend I have on this station. I want one thing that he cannot take."
Still, he is successful. It's hard to not see a large white-haired man gliding through the air like it's not much of a trick, that it comes so naturally for him.
Though he supposes it does.
He activates his omni-tool to call upon Skyfire.
"Please land. We need to speak."

Difficult to tell, really.
