» 007 [video] [backdated to the day of Pino's birthday party]

Jun 24, 2011 21:38

[Someone forgot that a certain birthday girl had managed to make the fake rabbit ears stick to his helmet. He rumbles quietly--a decidedly not bunny-like noise--for a moment in thought before he addresses the device.]...What is the point in celebrating a "birthday"? And. Why is it considered fun to pretend to be an animal? Or, something that one is ( Read more... )

"Birthdays" are part of human culture, to celebrate the date at which one entered the world "officially" (not genetically, that would be the conception date which would be a bit awkward). It's an acknowledgment of being alive one more year.

About pretending to be an animal? Hmm. It's a kid thing, I think. Pretending to be something you are clearly not can be for many reasons. Sometimes it is to explore one's possibilities or escape reality. There are many reasons, each individual would probably tell you something different.

Why is it celebrated though?

So it is pointless. There serves no purpose in it.

Other than enjoyment? That is really the point.

It's foolish. But Pino enjoys it, so I think she can have her fun.

[Most things can slide by when it comes to that little robo-girl.]

It makes no sense.

[...so why is he indulging the girl? You tell him. And don't you dare laugh.]

Does it need to?

[Coming from Gem, this is rich. But she did get the damn girl a puppy. And no, she won't laugh. Pino is perhaps the only thing they have neutral ground on.]

Yes.

[It does to him. It has to have purpose. Otherwise, how can he understand it? ...That's good.]

You have bunny ears.

[No seriously. Bunny ears.]

[He tilts his head to one side, which causes the ears to shift and Rinzler to notice them and remember that they're there. Which makes Flynn's words click into place. He realigns his head ...and adjusts the ears back into place.

If a 'rrr' could sound sheepish then this is that sound.]

Yes.

[Okay, then.]

Long's you're okay with it.

[He's glad Thane didn't go for another swim, but now he's slightly worried about Rinzler.]

[He should always be worried about Rinzler.]

Pino likes bunnies.

[That's a perfectly valid reason. That... and the only one he has.]

[O-Oh my stars don't mention the ears don't laugh and don't mention the ears.]

Don't you celebrate the day you were written? That's kind of what a birthday is, I guess. It's like saying, "wow, I'm lucky enough to have been here for another year!" And it's also just a time to acknowledge that person and be thankful for knowing them. Thing like that.

Heh, and pretending, well! I'm not really sure why it's fun. I guess because you get to step out of yourself for a little bit. You can run around doing other things, stuff you wouldn't normally do. It's fun! But, I guess fun itself is kind of hard to define.

No. [And he doesn't have the processing power to image CLU giving him presents for acknowledging such a cycle either.] I am still not sure that has a meaning or serves a purpose. It seems pointless.

...acknowledged. ["Hard" is an understatement for someone who only thinks of it as "winning" and/or "killing the target".]

Well, is there anyone who you're really happy to have around? I mean, you appreciate that sort of thing daily, but a birthday is when you really get to celebrate it. Also there's presents and free food!

Programs do not require consumption of "food" products. Presents do not...always make sense. [He really just can't comprehend this, man.]

Ahh. [Yeah, he forgot to take them off and now this is embarrassing. But at least Pino is happy.] You're welcome, Pino.
