squish thyself

May 23, 2007 22:31

I had a good day at work today--until a little after ten am, when I split open the end of the little finger on my left hand. I was helping to set up a task, when an injudicious movement on my part caused me to squish my finger. And a good job of it I made too, split it right around the end of the last segment, peeled off my fingernail, and took a little chip out of the bone. This makes the first time in my 41 years of life that I have broken a bone. It could have been worse, I guess--I can still walk, and more or less use both hands. I'm off work until my doctor or whichever medical professional says otherwise, and I kept hearing "workman's comp", so I may not have to go without money during this time. As this would be my first time to claim this, I kind of need to be led around by the hand a bit.
I told the nurse-practitioner who fixed my finger that I felt stupid for doing this, but she said "stupid" was the idiots that put their hands into lawnmowers and snow blowers while they are running, this was just an accident.
I still feel stupid.
Anyways, I will probably be off the rest of this week and all of next. The thought that I needed a break has been running through my head lately, but cheez-it, not like this!
