Assignments #3-4

3A: Shallow Depth of Field:

Make a photograph using 1-5 of the most important objects in your home and make them look special or magical. Only the objects will be in focus - the rest of the picture will be out of focus.

I don't think my collection of remote controls is particularly "important," but I didn't have much to choose from for this assignment. Very few possessions besides family photos are special to me, and I don't collect... anything. No teddy bears, stamps, figurines. Nothing.

The teacher called this composition "very well done."

3B: Deep Depth of Field:

Place or find an object in a landscape in which it normally doesn't belong. All of the picture will be sharp and in focus.

Flowers in a toilet. I swear this isn't social commentary on love, or anything like that. I just thought it would be unique, since the suggestions for this assignment included photographing these out-of-place objects outside.

The teacher chuckled at this one, and he asked about the "69" photo on the dining room wall.

4: Framing:

Shoot at least one roll of film using the edges of the frame in interesting ways.

This is from Easter 2008 in Dolores Park. The teacher loved the color (I punched up the contrast to make it more vibrant) and said it was a good shot.
