Funny how some things never change

There was a poem I wrote when I was a kid.  Well, I wrote a lot of poems, but this particular one came to mind.  It comes to me every once in a while.  And as I drove home today, it came today, and I realized how it's still relevant to me today.  It's not a great poem (I did say I wrote it when I was a kid) and I don't remember all of it off the top of my head, but I do remember most of it.  I think it's the first few stanzas that I don't recall.

They should never see a tear
And God forbid if they should hear.

If I cry and they should see
Filled with rage, they'll yell at me.

"It's not important!  It's not worth while!
So stop that crying, you foolish child!"

They never look, and never see
That it is important, that is, to me.

So in public's eye, a smile is known
But behind closed doors, I cry alone.
