As a rule, Valentine's Day is way too sentimental to be acceptable. However, it is also ridiculous, and things that are ridiculous and completely unfounded tend to be exceptions to the rules. Because Valentine's Day is fun. People should surprise each other more often.
I've never celebrated Valentine's Day romantically and feel awkward at the very idea. But among friends, it's always been playful. It's always been silly but pure. I remember trading card-board box bits in elementary school, saving pieces of candy for my best friend B... I remember my parents buying me a heart-shaped box of chocolates and reminding me they loved me every year. One year my mom bought me Urban Decay lip glosses. They made me happy for a long time.
This year I woke up to a glorious snow day and Moga IMing to see if I wanted Valentine's Day hot cocoa. She arrived with a mug overflowing with marshmallows and later I went to see her flowers from Ben. They are not my favourite kinds of flowers, but damn are they beautiful.
Michaela gave us all miniature bouquets of fresh red flowers and Nerds (!!!) Valentines this morning. Last night I gave everyone amusing white-chocolate-covered fortune cookies. And before that, my brother John and his partner Brian sent us a surprise package in the mail full of cookies and chocolates, which have now been annihilated. I also bought myself a fragrant pink hyacinth.
Now I am going to shower and get sexied up for my "date" with Hina, oh let's get rid of those quotes, it's a bona-fide date. We are going to study at Cuppa's and enjoy the free WiFizzle. But first I need to take a shower and GET prettied, so I'm off.
Just wanted to say thank you all for being my friend and remind you not to be bitter today because anyone can show and receive extra affection and share in shall delights no matter how single they may feel. :)
