I just taught my first scene study class... I was IMMENSELY nervous, but I think it went really well. I've got an amazing group of students who all responded with a lot of enthusiasm and guts to everything I was throwing at them. It helped me a lot to think of Claudia and just try to emulate her. Haha.
And it feels really nice to get money for doing something I love. Now that I think about it, I'm making almost twice the money doing this once a week for six weeks than I did for eight weeks rehearsing and performing every night at the Gamm, so technically this is a step up (and other things I tell myself to make myself feel like I'm accomplishing something). I also had some calls for private lessons this week, so financially I may come out of this disasterous summer on top.
The woman who's renting me the space at New Hope Arts is very cool. She's Robin Larson (Liz Larson's step-mom, for all you musical theatre geeks), a producer who premiered All In The Timing by David Ives, and a bunch of Christopher Durang plays. We had a talk about her background, which is hugely in producing new work. I'm going to be compensating her for use of the space by coming in a few times a week, hanging out at the office, and making phone calls to promote New Hope Arts as a theatre space (most people just think of it as an art gallery right now). Hopefully I'll get to know her better and get some more words of wisdom. She's very supportive of what I'm trying to do -- she's posting fliers for my private lessons, and seems really into the idea of me teaching a Shakespeare workshop later in the summer.
I'll be MIA again for a while, I'm going on another vacation until next Monday. This'll be a real vacation though. As in, without my family. Woohoo!
See y'all later. Maybe there will be some Puerto Rico pictures to post by then.
