I feel this kind of entry is long overdue. I'm bitching, but knowing the types of friends I have on here, they will agree with me. And if you don't, that's cool too. I welcome your debate.
I'm sure you all have noticed how gas prices have skyrocketed over the last few weeks. By now, we've all seen gas prices over $3 I'm sure. If you haven't, I hate you. But I do think we deserve it. I'm not saying it doesn't suck to have to pay more for gas, but this is what we, as a country deserve. We are by far the biggest oil consuming nation in the world. And it's largely due to our love of huge SUV's and trucks which serve no other purpose than to make up for lack of size in "other" areas (i.e. penis and intelligence). Seriously, unless you are a farmer or contractor, you have no need for a huge vehicle. I'm even grouping people who have big vehicles to tow their big camper/trailer. Again, do you need a big camper? My family and a lot of other families I know had campers, but they were small and served it's purpose and we didn't need a large vehicle to tow it. They made minivans with balls back then. I think having a large camper with all the luxuries of home defeats the purpose of camping. I loved being dirty for a weekend every now and again and having to use the public shower houses and toilets. It was fun and part of being a kid.
But back to gas consumption. Yes, we as a nation have been asking for it for years. We still have the cheapest gas in the world, yet we're doing what we, as Americans, do best: bitch and complain when our cozy lives are no longer as cozy as we'd like them to be. Over in Europe, gas prices are about $2-$3 a liter, not a gallon, a liter. For those of you not familiar with the metric system, a liter is about equal to a quart...I'll let you remember how many of those come in a gallon and do the math. But they aren't complaining as much as we are. Why? Because public transportaion in Europe is second best only to Asia. You can go anywhere in Europe using pulic transportation. Trains, buses, subways, taxis...they use them and they go everywhere and they're cheap and effective. If someone does drive, they usually drive a tiny, gas-efficient vehicle. You see very few SUV's and even fewer trucks. To make my point, I saw I think maybe one pick-up truck during my 4-month stay in Russia. And it was on display at a car-dealership.
I'm also not being sympathetic to the big oil industry. They could afford to give the one retiring guy an 8 billion dollar retirment package, so they obviously have money and are huge-cocksuckers anyway. But they don't make as much profit as other companies do off their products. However, because America consumes so much oil, they still reap in huge profits. And I still don't think it's right that the oil companies profits are 17% higher then they were this time last year. That's a huge difference.
And if by some miracle, we do manage to impeach Bush, I wouldn't be surprised if gas prices sky-rocketed like a motherfucker. It'd be his way of saying "hahah...I can still fuck you over and that's what you get for impeaching me." Then again, I could see it doing the opposite since the Muslims who control the oil, hate him. It'd be interesting.
Yesterday, I researched how much gas milage some cars get. Can you believe I can't find a rate for a Hummer? They don't publish it. Kinda fishy if you ask me.
Ok, I'm done ranting. And thank you reading if you got this far! :-)
