Yesterday Singapore celebrated 40 years of nationhood with the annual National Day public holiday and parade. In honor of this momentous event I decided to compile a list of the 10 things I like most about Singapore (in no particular order):
1. The Weather - it is always summer.
2. Transportation - public transport is so efficient and taxis are so cheap.
3. The Food - the variety and the price are incredible.
4. The Shopping - I don’t think this needs an explanation.
5. The People - they are even more patriotic than Americans!
6. The Sports - they are really passionate about anything football related.
7. Fashion - sort of an ‘anything goes’ philosophy.
8. The Location - a great ‘leaping off’ point to Asia and the rest of the world.
9. The Tax rate - who wouldn’t be happy living here after experiencing New Zealand’s tax rates!
10. The Wildlife - the variety of lizards and other wildlife is amazing.
So basically almost everything - of course there are a number of things I don’t like as well - the death penalty, proximity to Bird Flu, expensive alcohol, crazy taxi drivers, long work hours…
