tonight was quite awesome. infact, every night (and day for that matter) has been pretty sweet since i've returned to the states. (tee hee... "the states") i've been happy despite the fact that i'm going through extreme withdrawals: italy withdrawals. a.k.a. "the most amazing adventure of my life" withdrawals. and everybody knows that good quality time with some awesome people is the only cure for italy withdrawals. lol.
did i mention that i love this summer?
so back to tonight.
my cousin picked me up and took me to flint for the day. he gave me the grand tour of his new house... well, new to me since i haven't been able to see it until now... we stopped by my aunt & uncle's for some of my aunt's famous homemade noodles, my personal favorite, and then we cruised around downtown until it was time to head out to the opening.
the red ink art gallery opening
it was pretty incredible. the talent was top notch, although there were a couple of questionable pieces for sale that make you stop and wonder "what the heck was this artist thinking?" but after all, it is the crazy pieces that make going to art galleries so much fun in the first place, right? trying to figure out what they represent and then realizing that some pieces just can't be figured out. lol
we met up with fina, jon, steve, josh, and the roomate, i think kirt was his name? i dunno, something like that. justin introduced me to a bunch of his artist friends whose pieces were on display in the gallery (dang, my cousin has some pretty sweet connections) and i complimented them on their work. it seemed the appropriate thing to do. i mean, the whole event had the air of something very sophisticated. and justifyably so; flint has a lot of amazing local talent. it's a shame that such talent isn't more widely recognized. there was some chat about art. some chat about life. and, of course, some chat about idle nonsense. the latter increased exponentially after a round of vodka and cranberry cocktails from the bar. the open bar that did not card. yessssss. it was nice to drink freely in a public establishment again since italy. all in all, the place had quite the atmosphere. they even had DJs set up at both ends of the gallery, spinning some original hot tunes.
an excessive amount of indie hipster kids were walking around at the opening. i have never seen so many of them in one place, outside of a concert venue. half of the night i entertained myself solely by people watching. all the crazy hair styles and the overabundance of beaded accesories, tights, and baby doll dresses. though, i can't say i was totally exempt from all of this. i actually put together a hipster outfit for myself tonight. haha. it was quite fun. i wanted to look the part when coming to the opening. i decided to go indie hip meets euro chick. i wore my new green vest with pink polka dots that i bought in italy, a beige tank underneath, my blue glass bead venetian necklace, and a blue jean skirt. actually caught the eye of some hot hipster guys. hahaha. yeah, that's just what i need. not.
let's see. short synopsis of the rest of my week. two trips to ann arbor in two days, whoo hoo! monday-visited ania, went to coldstone. checked out my room for next year. met up with zach. discussed where i hid the note for him and lauren in florence. served as his lookout while he stole a blinking construction barrel from across the street and put it in matt's room. hahahahaha. had an amazing dinner cooked for me by lauren & zach. awww. joint effort. finally got to see lauren's apartment. a little past midnight, got to be the first to cut david jsa's hair. (we gave him a mullet to raise money for his missions trip to peru. every dollar equals an extra hour that he has to continue to live with it, so everyone donate! cuz it's pretty freakin hilarious. haha and kavin chung was doing the buzzing...that kid is amazing. too funny) tuesday-brought ania her present. baked cookies, bought candles, and helped her put together gift bags for luke's bride-to-be's wedding shower. had some alone time. sat by the school of music pond and wrote in my journal for a good two hours. collected my thoughts. attendend emily's piano recital. bartok still intrigues and amazes me. met a bunch of her uco friends & got invited to come to their events during the summer. wednesday- awesome rainy day. stayed in and relaxed, read, unpacked (stuff from italy and things that still needed to be unpacked from the dorm haha)
tomorrow (fri)- stop by great harvest to buy bread. check on the job situation at ciao amici's (sarah's attempting to hook me up) then to a2 to have dinner with john. lol you'd think i'd get sick of the place already, but honestly, i don't think that's possible.
sara signing out. much love y'all. pyace.
