What I Just Finished Reading
Nothing. (Currently working on Yuletide source consumption.)
What I'm Reading Now
Still nothing. See above.
What I'm Reading Next
I don't know; ask me when I'm done with Yuletide. No, wait, I have a question: I have a bunch of Octavia Butler novels I picked up for ridiculously cheap, and I've never read her before, and I was wondering if Kindred would be a good place to start? And if not there, where? (Not that there's any guarantee I'll read them after Yuletide, but I've been wondering.)
***
Right, this was a boring book report. How about some television?
Sleepy Hollow continues to be ridiculous and yet I can't look away. (I am still not quite caught up; I'm only as far as last week's episode.) And when I say "can't look away" I mean "can still follow reasonably well while looking away because creepy!John Cho's body keeps getting creepier." But other than that, hey, it's still fun.
This week's episode of Almost Human ("Are You Receiving?") is everything I could have wanted from a buddy-cop Die Hard pastiche, because, really, who doesn't like Die Hard? And also awesome bonding moments. And whatever that line about the finger was supposed to mean. And quoting Star Wars. And the chewing gum. And the olive oil. John and Dorian have really great chemistry and I like that this episode basically just let them bounce off each other. Man, I hope Fox doesn't cancel this. Please? I know, I know, I shouldn't get attached. (Also, I hope
savvierthanu writes robot porn.)
And then
lysimache showed me some classic Who because Five is her favorite and Doctor/Master is also her favorite and so you can probably see why it makes her sad that I had never seen "The Five Doctors." Tip for people who own Roku boxes: Roku has a Dailymotion channel, and some, um, upstanding citizens have uploaded a whole slew of classic Who that you can stream to your hearts' content. (I say "hearts'" because I am assuming, of course, that you have two of them.) You can also stream on your computer at Dailymotion, of course. Um. So I hear. That's what my friend says. Right. Yeah.
Anyway! "The Five Doctors" was a whole lot of fun, though I think it could have done with actual Four and not just repurposed footage. Needs moar Four. (We have Four vs. Five disagreements, yes.) And it was great to see all the companions (OMG they're all awesome) and all the other Doctors and the Time Lords (and, yes, the Master) and Daleks and Cybermen and really everything you would expect from an anniversary special. And okay, maybe I pointed and laughed at the giant triangle.
Rassilon sure has a lot of stuff, though. (Also the part of the Harp of Rassilon appeared to be being played by a piano.) I suspect conversations on Gallifrey go a lot like this:
RANDOM TIME LORD: All right, we have to clean out the fridge.
RASSILON: The Refrigerator of Rassilon!
TIME LORD: Rassilon, we've discussed this. The fridge is a communal space. It belongs to everyone.
RASSILON: *sulky face* Fine.
TIME LORD: Also your milk's gone bad.
RASSILON: Fool! Do not drink the Milk of Rassilon! Or eat the Sandwich of Rassilon!
TIME LORD: Yes, uh, I saw how you put your name on everything in there, but really the rest of us were just wondering if you could maybe share--
RASSILON: The Food of Rassilon! Never!
TIME LORD: *bangs head on table*
Like, it's probably a good thing he's dead or resting or whatever he's doing. I'm just saying.
