That's right! An Eagle DVD!
Everything here is something that was present in that shooting script PDF, FYI. So if you don't have the DVD but you have the script, they're all there.
One alternate ending:
Happy Gay Farmers In Spain! Marcus puts the Eagle on the pyre and Esca gives him a WTF face and Marcus makes a speech about how the Eagle is not for Rome, and they throw the knife and the carving on and we see the Eagle melting in the flames. Cut to Esca and Marcus walking through some hills and asking each other what they're going to do now, and Marcus wants to be farmers in Spain. And they are grinning and it is adorable. (Esca kind of makes a face when Marcus suggests he should have a wife and children. Sure, I'm sure you're supposed to think it's about farming, but that wasn't quite the way they timed it.)
Two deleted scenes:
1. Cradoc. A bit of Lutorius, some establishing shots of Britons, and then... Chariot racing! (Lutorius makes this WTF YOU'RE NOT RACING HIM face.) Spear wager (not that we see him pay up.) He's like OUR BRITISH CHARIOTS ARE HARD FOR YOU, WUSS and they have an exciting race through the forest (WTF) and Marcus is grinning and looks thrilled to death the whole time and it is adoramable and at one point he JUMPS OVER A LOG WITH HIS CHARIOT WTF. Also, "the commander begins to be a charioteer." Eeee.
2. Marcus and Esca at the riverbank after the boar hunt. Esca mentions how he tickles fish and Marcus starts laughing, and Esca is smiling and eeee... and somehow this transitions into an angsty conversation about the Ninth and then Esca's angsty past and how his family was killed. It's less fuck-you "Rome did this" than the conversation that made it into the movie -- Marcus is all "I'm sorry" when Esca says his family all died -- and if they'd put it here it would have made the dynamic more friends and less frenemies, and clearly they were going for frenemies. (Also it is much better-lit than the scene that did make it in.)
This just makes me want to see more of the scenes from the script, you realize. Well, at least we have these and they are awesome EEEEEEEEEEEEE. EEEE EEEEEEE. So there.
I HOPE NOW THERE WILL BE SOME MARCUS/CRADOC, FANDOM.
Have not watched the making-of/commentary yet; will have to do that later.
BTW,
this is a list of the differences between the PG-13 and unrated cuts. (It's all violence.)
The only sad thing: all the non-English dialogue is hard-subbed. This will make vidding problematic. Boo.
