How do people manage to stay concentrated on their work? It's a mystery to me! As much as I enjoy my work, I absolutely can't stay focused. The 2 hours go well, but after that...!
Yesterday I absolutely didn't feel up to it, so I wasted a whole day doing absolutely nothing... Which meant I have to make up for it today! I'm determinded to stick to my schedule, so that I'll have about 75% of my new assignment translated before I leave for Japan! (And have like a full month to finish the last bits...)
If I count like every random sentence I've translated, I've probably translated about 3 word pages today, while I want to get at least 5 done! If I'd just focus a little, it should take me that long to finish them, but...
I think I just spend about an hour watching youtube videos on how to avoid a jetlag! Because yeah, if I'm getting ditstracted, it's mostly because I'm too excited and can't wait to fly off to Japan. But,... so far I learned a couple things that may help to avoid a jetlag, so it may not be a complete waste.
- 1) In the week before departure. Try to adjust your day-night time rhythm by either moving your sleep time 30 minutes ahead every day, or by waking yourself up randomly at night. (Well, basically... set alarm every 1-2 hours if you're asleep while you should actually be awake according to the time of the place you're going to. And take random naps during day time if you're actually supposed to be asleep during that time according to the time of your destination...) Apparantly that'll help...
- Stay hydrated durying the flight! (Drink water!) Swell up like a balloon if you must!
- Only sleep 2-3 hours at most during your flight and wake up at least 4 hours before arriving.
- Depending on what time you arrive, take a hot bath in the late afternoon of evening after arriving. Length of your bath should be at least 5 minutes for every hour of time difference you experience. (If you take an evening bath, go to sleep right after you leave the bath. If it's an afternoon bath, take a 1 hour nap, but no longer!)
(Well, guess I know what I'll be doing my first evening in Japan... I believe there was a bath house pretty much across the street...! xD )
Aside from that, I sure as hell am going to try to keep better hydrated than I usually do... Maybe it'll help, and... it's not that hard to do.
And maybe, just maybe I'll attempt to adjust my sleep schedule, but... I doubt I'll have the dilligence for that. xD Randomly waking up at night isn't going to make me happy, plus... I want to feel rested during my days in the Netherlands too...!! And just moving my bed time ahead isn't going to do the trick anyway. Especially since my current bed time is around 1AM! For whatever reason I wake up earlier and more rested when I stay up that late... O_o;;
If I'm not looking at random youtube videos about jetlag prevention tips, I'm pretty much looking for awesome things to do in Japan that I haven't done yet... I think I've seen about every video on youtube titled "What to do in Tokyo!" and most of them just repeat everything I already know... Though, I've come across a few things I didn't know yet, so... even that wasn't a complete waste I guess.
The thing that strikes me though, is that about all videos say how awesome that Robot Restaurant in Shinjuku is and you absolutely need to visit it... but complately fail to mention you actually pay 8000 yen to watch the show, and an additional 1000-1500 yen if you want to get a meal that you could probably buy in a convenience store too. (So, it's actually not a restaurant, but more like a robot show... but most videos don't make that clear....) Yeah well, I'm not going there....
Something awesome I disovered through the videos though would be... Mt.Nokogiri. It's quite a day trip, but it looks awesome... So I definitly want to give it a go! And I disovered this awesome temple/hiking trail in Kamakura that I hadn't heard of yet... So I wanna go there too. (Not sure what the name of the temple was, I have it written down somewhere...) Um, and... well... there's loads of other places I want to go!
So yeah... I think it's time I get back to work...?
At least I don't have to worry about dinner tonight.
We ordered way too much Chinese yesterday, so... we still have half of the food left! xD
