I use insimenator to get new clothes to my sims and never had a problem.

Did you tried to use the regular game wardrobes or buy clothes in a clothing store to see if the same problem happens?

Perhaps is a problem with the clothing tool.

I highly doubt it's a problem with the clothing tool. I've been using it for ages and ages and never once had a problem. It's more likely a problem with some clothing you've downloaded. Have you checked in CAS (not BS), is everything fine there?

It could also be a coincidence. Sometimes, the game just crashes.

Using the Hack Detection Tool is also good advice.
