After spending an inordinate amount of time on-line tracking down links, I realized several things: 1) the Wayback Machine misses about as many files as it preserves; 2) the sororityboys-fic yahoo group is no more *sniff*; and 3) it's always the very best fics' authors that can't be found anywhere. So, you're getting this rec ( Read more... )

Or we could just say they're yours :-) Appropriate corrections will be done.

So... *eyes you warily* Your thoughts on my digging up old, from times past ficlets of yours are...? *whispers* if you're wanting to bite my head of you're sure going about way too calmly for my nerves...

My thoughts on the wayback machine is that it's absolute evil, and I can talk - in fact, rant loudly - about it, for long hours.

But.. I can't bite *your* head off. You didn't invent it. You're using what's at hand. I haven't updated my site in about two years, and I am not sure, next update, if I should bring back all the old "removed" bits of crap. And if I should update with newer bits of crap. Sigh. Anyway, those are my problems, and the only reason I'm sharing them with you is that you made the mistake of being nice about it.

What are *your* thoughts about it?

First of all, the SB ficlets you removed from your site are far from crap. And I should know, still having some spectacularly unspectacular stories saved over from the sororityboys-fic group. Actually, the one with Uncle Krycek is pure genious. I should be urging you not only to re-post them, but also try and expand on their 'verses ( ... )

I think it would be easier if people told me when they rec or link, so I'd at least know where they are. I mean, I found this by fluke; I rarely check statistics, or I would never have seen this.

The fic with Krycek was mostly just to calm me down :) Now, for example, I ponder writing about Kronos destroying the wayback machine. It's just things to make me feel better ;)

I think the WB, like any other archive, just has to ask permission before archiving. It's just the... ethics of online, you know? You want something, bloody ask for it. It's like people who use your icons without credit. It's the people who steal your fic. It's just wrong.

Pep-talks, if you don't have anything better to do with your time, are rather welcome :) I haven't written proper Adina in ages, I am deep in other fandoms at the moment. Although at least one of them would make for a great crossover... hmm.

I have a website and have yet to figure out how to use the statistics panel in any useful-seeming manner. You're good if you managed to track down this post! I was wondering how you'd stumbled upon it.

As for the wanting to be told part, I think that if you posted a note or something asking people to tell you even when they only rec or link, you'd get some results on that front. I considered emailing around all the SB authors asking about their stories, but gave the idea up since I sent out about half-a-dozen letters asking folks if they were that author who'd written that SB fic, and have to date received exactly 0 replies. There went my idea of making an automated SB archive down the drain...

First of all, I love your icon. Second of all, it seems we share quite a few fandoms, by the looks of it.

Re statistics, I'm not good, my host is, he set the site so it's easiest. We love him muchly.

I'm sorry people don't reply. Maybe it's their old emails; I answer everything I get, but I left behind in the past decade at least five addresses :)

Re Kronos and the WB (whether the wayback or the warner brothers), please note icon.

Linking and reccing is okay, yes. I'm not against that in any way - I'd *like* a note, but I don't have to. That's not my issue. The WB machine puts up pictures, personal pictures, that I removed from my site for very good reasons, see. Different.

Re the idea: I thought about immortal!Adina... or even an unrelated thing, how does an immortal handle transgenderism of any kind, what if you live your first so and so decades as male but then change for the rest of a few centuries, etc. Many ideas to be explored there. And don't worry, I won't let Adina anywhere *near* Kronos ;)

And I *loved* your other (Methos) icon, I just forgot to say so. I'm a Methos ho through and through. *grin ( ... )

I *many pink hearts* Methos. Yes.

The guy in the icon is Kronos, his boyfriend brother boyfriend. He's smiling like a crazy boy with weapons; you may not recognise because he looks so damn happy.

I think I also tried Methos/Adina, just for the hell of it and the "usual suspects" thing, but I don't recall ever doing anything serious with it. I thought to do a serious gender thing, but, eh, I'm a bit on the lazy side.

You may, if you wish, take this from an lj discussion to AIM or some such. I still hate the WB, but I'm capable of not harping on it (usually).

*scratches head over the chat-thing* Hmm... I think I can still up my AOL-chat account somewhere, or Internet Explorer has Windows Messenger... Would any of them do for you?

I chat about once in a blue moon, obviously. I think ICQ might work as welll... Basically any chat-thingy as long as I don't have to download anything.

Hmmm... that was Kronos? Darn, you're right! I didn't recognize him without all the face paint and a nasty grin smirk. :-)

Oh. I don't mind you harping on WB, really. As long as I get to grumble a bit as well.

ICQ I have. Don't remember its number though.

Turns out I still have an AIM account (I forgot that's AOL-chat), if you can't find your ICQ number. (I had to get a new one myself this year 'cause apparently my old one vanished into thin air)

We'll also have to agree on a time to "meet"; I keep European hours, GTM+1.

But I'm up for a chat or two if you are.

My AIM is inthekipple, but I've just spent the last 20 minutes trying to load the chat site up only to get the Bad Request form pop-up every time. First it won't work on the newest Opera, now it says the page is missing... *growls in irritation* What next? Entrance fee? Grrrrr...

My ICQ# is 261416497 but I have to warn you it doesn't always work well for me.

I'll again tomorrow morning as it's getting late. I'll try AIM again, then ICQ; if all fails I'll make a chatroom on my site. Something has *got* to let me chat, darnit. Now it's just frustrating me.

Things I reccomend: Trillian, where you can get your aim, icq, yim and others, all at the same time in a rather reliable program; and mIRC, which is... an IRC based chat program, obviously. Also very stable, and for me at least, nostalgic.

I'll try you tomorrow, it's 2:30 in the morning :)
