better? better?!?!?!?!

"Oh God, it's huge!" Kaoru could only stare transfixed at the plump little blemish from hell that sat comfortably on her chin. At first it hadn't seemed so bad, but then, as she continued to stare, she realized just how large it was! And the worst part? IT WAS GROWING!

Kaoru knew didn't deserve this. After all, she had always considered herself a good person. Ok grades, decent at kendo, lots of friends, so why did the gods curse her with a zit the size of a small country??!?!?!

Kaoru poked a bit at The Monster (yes, she nicknamed the thing on her face) and contemplated squeezing it to death. Before she could even attempt at exorcising The Monster, her mother stormed into the room, fully dressed for the day in a navy blue suit.

"Kaoru, if you keep day dreaming in front of that mirror you'll--" Kaori, Kaoru's mother, immediately stopped talking and took a step closer to Kaoru. "Did you know you have a zit the size of China on your chin?"

Ok, apparently it was the size of a LARGE country...

"No, mom, I didn't notice!" Kaoru said, her voice dripping with annoyance.

"Don't get mad at me, I didn't put that thing on you!" Her mother responded.

"I know, I know." Kaoru sighed, "But how do I make it go away!" She poked at The Monster again. It grew in response. Kaoru grimaced.

"Do NOT squeeze it. That'll only make it worse."

"Are you sure? I think I should pop it."

"You'll be sorry if you do..." Kaori mumbled, which earned her a glare from her daughter. "Pimple, or no pimple, you still have to get to school. So get dressed and come eat breakfast. I made eggs!" Kaori said while leaving the room.

Kaoru nodded, perhaps breakfast would make her feel better. Besides, her mother was probably right about attacking The Monster. Maybe it would go away by itself! A First Day of School Miracle!!!!!!!!

Maybe...

10 minutes later Kaoru was dressed in jeans, a t-shirt that said "Made in Japan," and a pair of black low top converse. She grabbed her hair tie, her ipod, and her back pack, and ran down the stairs to the kitchen. "The eggs smell good." Kaoru commented, dropping her bag by the door and plopping down infront of her food.

"Then you better eat all of it." Kaori smiled from her opposing seat. Kaoru smiled back before she dug into her eggs. The moment the first forkful of eggs touched her tongue Kaoru cringed, but once the slightly off taste of....nutmeg...?... disappeared, the eggs tasted pretty good.

"My cooking getting any better?" Kaori asked with a laugh. She couldn't help but notice Kaoru's cringe.

"I don't think so. Maybe I should cook next time."

"Like that would solve anything." Kaori snorted. Kaoru laughed and shoved more eggs into her mouth.

Sometimes it was so weird how alike her and her mom were. They almost looked like twins! Both had the same blue eyes, the same blue hair, the same pale skin, the same humor, and apparently enough, the same bad cooking. The only differences were their ages and their heights (Kaori was a good 3 inches taller than her daughter). Beyond that, they got mistaken for sisters all the time.

"I'm going to be gone till really late tonight." Kaori said softly, pushing around her eggs with her fork.

"Business again?" Kaoru said, her voice dry and void. Her mother was barely ever home because of her job. She was some exec at a big company and Kaoru hated it. When her mother was home, she was amazing. She was always light and happy! But, whenever Kaori was in business mode, she was cold and distant. Kaoru hated that her mother had to live a two sided life, but it was what she had chosen. God knows why. However, Kaoru still loved her mother, even if she never saw her.

"Yes, business as always, but I'm sure you won't mind me not being here. I used to love having the house to myself when I was a teenager. Just make sure there are no boys. NONE."

"Heh, I'll be sure to tell Sano." Sano was one of Kaoru's closest guy friends. She considered him to be her brother. After all, they'd known each other for way too long.

"Oh, Sano can come over, just as long as you make sure he does his homework." Kaori said, going into mother mode over Sanosuke. Sano, she completely trusted and adored. She knew he would protect Kaoru, rather than take advantage of her, and have sex with her, and impregnate her, and then leave her all alone with a baby to raise! Oh wait, that's what happened to Kaori... Ha.

"Mom, you ok?" Kaoru questioned.

"Yeah, I'm fine." Kaori muttered, clearly out of it.

"Alright, well I'm gonna go to school. Sano's probably been waiting for me. SO I'll catch you tomorrow!" Kaoru said, dropping her fork into her empty plate. "First day and lots of learning to be done."

"Have a good day!" Kaoru's mom smiled sweetly.

"You too!" Kaoru grabbed her backpack and left.

Today was going to be a good day, she thought as she stepped onto the sidewalk.

"The hell is on your face?!" Sano said from his car. Her daily ride was staring intently at her chin... shit.

"MOU!"

Well, there goes the good day idea.

"Eh, it's not the bad." Sano said as he stared.

Kaoru snorted.

"Just get in the car, we're gonna be late." Sano said, finally tearing his eyes away from The Monster.

"Fine, fine." Kaoru said, climbing in the passanger seat with her backpack in her lap.

"So..." Sano said after a moment of silence, "Is that thing contagious?"

"Bite me." Kaoru shot back.

"I would, but then you might infect me."

"Oh My God, Sano!" Kaoru yelled.

"What?!"

"Look, over here!" Kaoru pointed off in a random direction. Sano's head swivled to look. Just then Kaoru took her hand and wacked Sano upside his head.

"JESUS! KAORU!" Sano said holding his head.

"That's what you get for making fun of me. You're lucky we're at a red light!"

"Just because you have a small person growing out of your chin, doesn't mean- FUCK!" Sano grabbed his bruised head again. Kaoru smiled smugly. "If you hit me one more time, Jou-chan, you're gonna have to walk home from school!"

"..." Kaour's eyes narrowed into a glare.

5 seconds later.

"GOD DAMNIT!!! MY ARM!"

Kaoru's smile widened. Today was turning out to be lots of fun.
