A World Power?

Well, the Lisbon Treaty has finally been ratified by all of Europe's member states...

"The what?" I hear from across the pond...

The Lisbon Treaty. Basically it's the first step towards a United States of Europe. Is this a good thing? Fucked if I know!

It has some good points, and it has some bad points, so far as I can tell.

The biggest problem I have is that no-one thought to actually ask me what I think of it. (Well, no-one who actually matters in the scheme of things, like my government, for example...)

See, if they'd asked me, and explained the pros and cons properly, the chances are I would have voted "yes". The same with the Euro. I WANT the Euro. Why should I have to change my money to go abroad? In fact, fuck the Euro, lets have the Universal Credit.

Actually, there is a world wide currency. Seriously, it already exists. How do you think you are able to pay for things abroad with your debit card, or make international phone calls from abroad with your mobile phone? (Interesting the things you learn when working for a mobile phone company). Why don't we use it? Because of narrow minded nationalism which means people like David Cameron want to keep an out-dated currency that really serves no useful purpose other than maintaining an anachronistic Nationalist pride. Oh, and of course it would make it very difficult to maintain national borders...

I am, I have to admit, pro-Europe. I have deliberately posted a link to a pro-Europe description of the treaty. So, to be balanced, here is a very negative report by The Daily Torygraph.

I think I support the treaty, but it would have been nice to have been asked!
