Badly Named.

NASCAR and Figure skating are alike in that they're named for something that ISN'T part of the sport anymore.  There is literally nothing stock about a stock car.  Under the Car of Tomorrow rules, the farby plastic covers that they bolt on to the racers don't even pretend to ba a particular street car.  Only the decals distinguish Fords from Chevys.  You could as easly stick Smart, FIAT or Trabant stickers on 'em.  And they no longer skate actual FIGURES in figure skating.  'Cause figures refered to the old practice of carefully carving shape into the ice.  But that's slow and the extreeme opposite of televisable, so they don't do it anymore.
