Music, Geeks and Games

Oct 22, 2007 23:34

So this evening i went to the Video Games Live event in London.

The basic premise is that the Phili orchestra et al play music from popular computer games through the ages (including from Potter) so a few of us from EA (mainly the audio team) got some tickets and went along. I wasn't gonna go originally but a few people dropped out and as they were desperate and it looked like a laught i went along with Steve + Adam et al.

Anyway so it was ace overall. A metric ton of people...scratch geeks were there. Man it was enough to make me feel almost 13.1 megafonzies cooler. Anyway...

They played loads of cool stuff. Liberi Fatali, One Winged Angel, MSG. Some other stuff like the Mario, Sonic, Zelda tracks, but i was less bothered about those. Oh they played Halo as well.

They had the very ace Video Games Pianist. What a master. lol. He was all like white-black-white-black. Ace.

Then they introduced our music which was being played for the first time i think they said. Pretty exciting....

...there was a unanimous boo from the audience for a good 10-15 seconds. That was harsh man. I guess it was part due to the company image, part due to the franchise image, and part because the audience were about as hard core as they were likely to come and thats not exactly the target for either the game or the franchise. But still it was a bit of a kick in the teeth to have your music booed. Then they brought out the composer and he looked a little surprised as well tbh, which was made all the more...er...well meaninless when our music was probably one of the best they played at the entire event. We even used that orchestra to record it so...*shrugs*

At one point near the start the MC stated that some people claimed VG's caused violence. At the time i heckled out "Off with their heads." as an satirical comment. Needless to explain my reasoning i said it again mist the booes. Bah.

We also ate at some random latin restaraunt called erm I think it was Las Iguanas or something. It was alright but we were rushed due to having to goto the event so.

Anyhoo so we all moved desks at work. It was a bit pointless and now im in a corner away from the main area of A) busy discussion B) thorough through C) my old-gameplay-friends. However it is nice and quiet and good for concentration where i am now so thats nice. Plus i have a window. Erm. And I dont know if i mentioned but i moved team as well a little bit. So now ive got lots of new responsivilities which are cool and non of which i can discuss. lol.

And now im tired. I think it will do a little looking for some music and then retire to bed to sleeps.

Adieu.
