Birthday songs

Songs that I kinda like, as my 38th birthday present to myself - and possibly to you guys too. Including youtube links where I can...

1. Oasis - Amanda Palmer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8C17yfGyJjM) - Because, well, great lyrics, bouncy tune, what can go wrong? And yes, I really do like the lyrics of this one.
2. He's My Number One - Christie Allen (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYV5KgZC7-w) - Because it's an atrocity... But it does have lovely maths. And it screams one hit wonder.
3. She Bop - Cyndi Lauper - (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFq4E9XTueY) - yes, it's about things that ladies do to themselves. But, again such a bouncy tune (warning, video has crappy opening bit, and what looks like a fair few Rock and Roll Wrestlers - I like Cyndi but her videos are problematic).
4. Wild Boys - Duran Duran (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCWyYOOS8FQ) - it's as 80s as a song can get but dammit if it doesn't get my feet stomping...
5. Mah-Na Mah-Na - The Muppets (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8N_tupPBtWQ) - I don't need to explain this one, do I? Except to note that this is clearly the struggle between one man (or purple-thing, anyway) and his backing singers.
6. Nine People's Favourite Thing - Title of Show Cast (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHCnL13P5Y4) - yes, it's meta-as-hell, but it's a gorgeous tune and a gorgeous set of songs (I haven't seen the show, so the script may let it down...)
7. Nightswimming - REM (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahJ6Kh8klM4) - just 4 and a bit minutes of beauty.
8. Mirrorball - Elbow (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sq10PhUG9VQ) - and yes, I would totally do Guy Garvey (and thanks to alahankbear for introducing me to them and him)
9. Caramel - Suzanne Vega (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kD7TZyLeCfk&ob=av2e) - If I ever wanted to learn to dance proper, it would be to dance gently to this.
10. All the Men in my life keep getting killed by Candarian Demons - Evil Dead the Musical Cast - (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yx2m1sfupmI) For when you want to sway out to demonic tragedy.
11. Private Universe - Crowded House (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1REjiWWXK8) - Goddamit, they're Australian (or at least 66% australian, majority rules). And they're awesome. Did they do their farewell to the world in New Zealand, no, they didn't, case closed.
12. Holler - Spice Girls (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFBWbH5CeRE) - from the era when there were only four of them, it's got a nice smoothness to it.
13. Any Which Way - Scissor Sisters (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHv0jW4p_xA&ob=av2e) - who couldn't love the sisters?
14. Goody Goody Two Shoes - Adam Ant (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o41A91X5pns&ob=av2e) - Makes me jiggle around all over the place.
15. Heart - Pet Shop Boys (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNJRL58FJIE) - Another song for a-moving-and-shaking. And love that bouncy riff...
16. Bohemian Like You - Dandy Warhols (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-GRlWPWRfE&ob=av2e) - Largely but not entirely for the big drum bit at the end...
17. Come into my world - Kylie Minogue (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=keGcefdT2KU&feature=fvst) - this is a bit of a cheat because it's largely for the great Michel Gondry Video, but the tune is a lovely little round too.
18. Inner City Pressure - Flight of the Conchords (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wqfcwgT0Ds) - Best thing about musical comedians is when they're actually repeatedly funny... a gently mocking Pet Shop Boys spoof...
19. Sexuality - Billy Bragg (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=liNnCKPeEv0) One of my favourite rhyming couplets of all time is "I look like Robert DeNiro, I have a Mitsubishi Zero".
20. Colour and Light - Original Broadway Cast of Sunday in the Park with George (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgQJSomGwDc) - One of those songs about creation that captures that fantastic feeling when something comes together before your eyes.
21. Mamma I'm a Big Girl Now - Hairspray Cast (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P22MYJmcRtA) - again, songs that can be done by drag queens easily. They're my thing...
22. Into the Groove - Madonna (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZrLJXp3nYiE) - madonna with big fluffy hair, groovy tune, what's not to like?
23. Six Underground - Sneaker Pimps (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2eBZqmL8ehg) - smooth perfection...
24. This Charming Man - The Smiths (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGnjrTkv1gs) - and again, something to get me wiggling round the kitchen.
25. Father Figure - George Michael (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_9hfHvQSNo&ob=av2e) - music to molest people by.
26. The Name of the Game - Abba (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJ90ZqH0PWI&ob=av2e) - because it's just such a rich gorgeous song and, well, it's like Abba, it's the comfortable-slippers of pop.
27. Wig in a Box - John Cameron Mitchell (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kl07XuVRkHw) - it's got a karaoke bit! And is otherwise awesome.
28. Shady Lady - Ani Lorak (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8FbpoSLk2E) Cause we needed at least one Eurovision track. And this one's got men in boxes!
29. Breathe Me - Sia (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNwARV9tPUw&feature=related) - because this pretty much always makes me cry buckets.
30. Hopelessly Deovoted to You - Kristen Chenoweth (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TLEUbi5TZo) - Because it's sweet, it's cute, and there's a dance with a dog in it.
31. Missionary Man - Eurythmics (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-Q3cp3cp88&ob=av2e) Because Annie Lennox is a goddess and she reigns supreme in this (PS clip is quite freaky)
32. Ninja Ropes - Nathan Fillion, Neil Patrick Harris, Jed Whedon (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6luqgyze4Q) - the most lovely musical ode to an iphone app ever.
33. Sit down you're rocking the boat - Guys and Dolls cast (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7kzsZreG0o) - my favourite song from one of my favourite musicals. And it's vaguely morally inspiring!
34. Like Wow, Wipeout - Hoodo Gurus (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkgOumIrSY8) - a great sing-along track although Dave Faulkner is not easy on the eye.
35. Yo Mama - Butterfingers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYf2Dh71RgY) - because at heart, I am a 8 year old boy.
36. Murder on the Dance Floor - Sophie Ellis-Bextor (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsISfQAXE60) - yes, this is utterly becuase this is one song I can actually sing at Karaoke (becuase it has a range of about three notes...) Still, I do a pretty good toffee- voiced bitch.
37. Posession (Piano version) - Sarah McLauchlan - (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Z-cg5JOrOs) - my favourite lady-singing-sensative-songs. And this one just remains unutterably gorgeous...
38. Half The World Away - Oasis (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1YqF3pYAeg) - Yes, both Gallagher Brothers are twats. But Noel is a damn talented one. And here's one of his lovelier tunes.
