the doctor's wife
You know when your favourite show is on and you're so engrossed in the thing you almost forget to breathe, and you want to squee and listen to every line of the dialogue at the same time? Well, that was me last night.
Right off the bat, there's one thing I have to say: Doctor/TARDIS, it is canon.
I feel about The Doctor's Wife the same way I feel about The Big Bang - I love re-watching it even if I always cry at the end. Because, seriously, 700 years of travelling together and the first thing she thinks of telling him 'Goodbye! No, not goodbye, what's the other one?' is a throwaway line that makes me bawl when we reach the end: 'I just wanted to say hello. Hello, Doctor. It's so very, very nice to meet you.' Cue waterworks!
I think every single line of dialogue between them is going into my favourite quotes list, because there is just so much substance to it! And what a cheeky title, a title that is never uttered in the episode, which makes me happy; I always think titles are summaries, and a summary has no place in the actual text. I mean, I love River, she's awesome, but I still firmly believe that she can't be just the wife; the TARDIS on the other hand is the most faithful companion ever, and she puts up with the Doctor's whimsical distractions. They reminded me of my grandparents.
After the whole 'You call me... Sexy' exchange, I am a bit worried what my MacBook would say were it to come to life. Ahem. 'Only when we're alone!' would be my reply too. :)
I think I was squeezing Lookalike's hand to death during the episode, and there were a couple of moments when we both gasped and awwwwed at the same time. On the line 'Fear me. I've killed all of them' though, Lookalike laughed out loud, which only goes to show that Doctor Who is doing its job in appealing in different ways to different people; I merely went 'Uuuuuuh...' XD
Neil Gaiman needs to come back for at least a one-shot every year. Please? The Confidential was just pure awesome with him in it, and as the video above demonstrates, THEY SHIP IT TOO!
ETA: I just remembered that this ep was supposed to air before TPO/TBB! It would have been so much worse to watch the TARDIS explode at every point in time... and the speech at the end of TBB would have killed me for sure. Swapping this with The Lodger was a wise choice.
