School started again this week, with a rather brutal change of pace. Going from lazy, laid-back Life Drawing to Archaeo-genetics was... interesting. XD
Still, genetics is incredibly interesting so far, even though it's a lot of new terms and facts to take in. We're DNA-sampling Viking-Age cows from a dig in Fröjel - same place they found those gorgeous pendants I got myself a replica of at Medieval Week, remember? :)
Yay, doing DNA-y things in a lab! I feel all Vexen.
However, naturally, predictably with pace picking up and lots of people coming together again, I've caught a cold. And because my poor lungs are still in a lousy shape after that severe pneumonia a few months back, of course that's where it settled. Poor, poor me. I don't want to go through all that again. DX
Anyway, rantage aside, I have a nice backlog of artsy stuff I haven't gotten around to uploading, so I figured I'd make up for my whining with some of that.
Amaru being very, very macho in his very macho and masculine pink, frilly apron.
...
Look, we don't have a lot of money, and the stupid thing was on sale, all right? Does its job, keeps your normal clothes clean while you go about your daily masculine chores of cooking, cleaning, doing laundr-.. Okay, stop laughing!
Poor Amaru. Reduced to housewife, not quite sure how that happened. Stupid Even, with his impossible lack of demands and not taking things for granted! ... Er.
The Even in question. Very quick doodle, just to break an art-block I was struggling with. All lighty and shiny.
One of the assignments for my '07 Life Drawing class was to choose a random work from the history of art, pick a figure and render it realistically, then rotate it around 90 degrees and make another render.
I picked one of the Amarna frescoes of Nefertiti - the rotated version was very rushed and sucked horribly, but this one is slightly okay. Not entirely pleased with it, but because of the highly stylized original, the anatomy was very tricky to work with from the start. ^^;
Another one blamed on my Life Drawing class - looking at these assignments you could believe I haven't actually learned anything at all, they're all so anatomically horrible. >.>
I blame it on the fact I hate assignments and drawing things because I'm told to - when we just did sketching in class or I was allowed to draw things for fun, they turned out much better. XD
Still, this one's in color, so I'll upload it just because. The assignment was to pick a certain pose from a practice we'd done and render it with a feeling for volumes, light and shadows. As usual, the light and shadow was what kept me happily occupied, and the actual basic drawing got to suffer. XD
Had to draw a woman, so I picked Alaeitha - been a while since I drew anything from Gate of Mists. ^^;
