Happy 4/11!

So, today's April 11, aka 4/11 aka one of two biannual 411 celebration days. Yay!
Of course this special occasion merits much celebration, and thus I whipped up a bit of art for it. Like so:

Springtime is a time of struggle and dynamic power-shifts. Winter is fading but summer's warmth still far away, and across the battlefield of the early months, flowers and ice wage a ruthless war for supremacy.
But every now and then, on one of those sun-bright days, with a bite of frost still on the wind, there is balance. The seemingly most fragile of flowers are blooming by the snow, and even though the battle is never far away, for a few precious hours, there is peace.
For like life and death you can't have one without the other, and only together can they be complete.

...
So.
If I ever get the urge to attempt to commit art noveau again, kindly bash my head in and lock me up until I regain my senses, plz? 8D

I got the idea for this when watching spring's first flowers burst defiantly through the snow, and knew at once I wanted to try and draw it. In art noveau style. Because it seemed like such a good idea at the time. Much, much too late did I remember I hate drawing detailed linework, not to mention inking. Curses.

I'm a sucker for white flowers, and snowdrops and anemones are among my favorites. They also seemed to fit the characters well, both aesthetically and symbolically.
The layout of the background design is based on the Kingdom Hearts princesses-designs, those stained glass like ones from the beginning of the game? I had a hard time deciding what to put in the circles at the top - the transition from snowflakes to flowers seemed like the perfect idea for the outer circle, but I must have discarded a handful sketches of the top design before finally settling on the Castle Oblivion crew - although you can only really see three of them, four if that tiny glimpse of Axel's chakram counts. There are six outer circles, though, so... just pretend the others are down there? And of course the Kingdom Hearts moon in the middle. u.u

Also, Vexen's hair. Er. It looks prettier long when stylized like this? Maybe he used some hair-growth potions or something? Maybe it was this long to start with, before that unfortunate event with Marluxia's scythe back when they were first introduced? Maybe I just like compulsively drawing long hair? The truth shall never be known!
