Kanon winced as he turned too sharply to pick up his coffee that stood on the table just to his right side.
“OWIE! GODDAMN THAT MOTHERFUCKING HURTS STILL!” he bellowed, letting all his kept in pain and anger go in one breath.
“Well it will do Non-chan,” laughed Teruki, leaning forward to pick up Kanon’s special yellow mug that had pink hearts all over it. “You shouldn’t really be over doing it, even now after being out of hospital for a couple weeks is it? You’re still tender and remember that nurse did say that it will take at least 4 months before you fully recuperate… shutting up now.”
Teruki was silenced by death glares from Kanon as he half-heartedly snatched his mug from the towering drummer, he didn’t use too much force otherwise he would have spilled some extremely hot liquid all over his lap and THEN the real cussing would have begun.
“Are you torturing poor Non-chan?” a voice from the doorway piped up, making Teruki and Kanon look to see who it was.
It was only Takuya and from Kanon’s point of view, he looked like he was struggling with the boxes he was carrying. Kanon moved slightly to get up to help his friend, but before he knew it, Teruki had clambered from his position and zipped over to the petite guitarist, taking three of the four boxes Takuya had been carrying.
“You know you shouldn’t carry so goddamn many Takuya-san!” he growled, striding over to the counter top and slamming the boxes down. “What would happen if you hurt yourself huh? I just… you make me so… oh GRR!”
Teruki had gotten himself so worked up that he slammed his palm down on the worktop and stalked off out of the room, leaving Kanon blinking rapidly and Takuya shaking at Teruki’s sudden outburst.
“I… I didn’t think did I Non-chan?” Takuya’s bottom lip quivered, making him look like a small child that had been scolded by his mother for taking a cookie without asking permission first.
“It’s ok Takuya-san,” Kanon said reassuringly. “Teruki cares about you so much you know that right?”
Takuya nodded, still looking upset but Kanon continued, “He’s never felt this way about anyone before to be honest.” He stood up gingerly, picked up his cup and ambled over to the small kitchenette area, pulled out another mug and held it up to Takuya. “Tea? Coffee?” he asked.
“Um… coffee please,” Takuya mumbled, stepping over to the counter top where the boxes Teruki had slammed down were placed, carefully resting the box on top of the others and sitting down on one of the bar stools.
“You like it white with two sugars right?” Kanon turned slightly towards the younger man and saw him nod.
He turned back and spooned in two heaped piles of sugar into Takuya’s mug, adding only one to his own, he then tentatively bent down to the small fridge and pulled out a carton of milk, instinctively he sniffed it to make sure that it hadn’t gone off and when he noticed that it hadn’t, he poured a small amount of the white liquid into each mug.
Neither man spoke so the only sound that could be heard in the room was the whistling of the kettle as the water boiled up inside of it. Just like all my emotions, Kanon thought to himself, and Takuya’s in his own way. Bubbling up inside of him until one day it will just explode, leaving behind in his wake a mess that even we, as a band and as friends, won’t be able to help clean up.
The kettle finished boiling, clicking at Kanon to tell him to empty the scalding water into the waiting mugs, which he did so, stirring the contents around with a spoon that he didn’t remember placing in his mug, he must learn not to be so forgetful sometimes.
Once he had finished mixing, he placed Takuya’s mug in front of him first, then collected his own and sat down opposite the guitarist. Still, neither man spoke, so Kanon took a sip of the steaming hot liquid he had created, savouring the taste of sweetness and bitterness that was diverse together, such a strange combination yet it worked. Kanon took a deep breath, ready to help the younger man that sat in front of him, wallowing in sadness.
“So are you two dating then?” he went straight to the point, making Takuya look up, surprised at such bluntness from the bassist.
“I… I guess we… Um I think we are…”
“Well what is it?” Kanon snapped. “Yes or no… simple answer to a simple question Takuya-kun.”
“Yes then,” Takuya replied, taking a sip of his coffee delicately.
“Okay. That’s good then, congratulations are in order,” Kanon smiled gently at Takuya, trying hard not to feel jealous at their relationship.
“Thank you Non-chan!” Takuya threw a smile back at him then went back to staring into his coffee mug, swirling it around in the air so the liquid inside made a small whirlpool.
“You don’t seem thrilled to be with him, Takuya-kun,” Kanon pointed out. “Why is that?”
“I don’t know Non-chan… it’s just, ever since your accident, Teruki has been really over protective of me, watching everything I do, making sure I don’t hurt myself. It’s making me feel like a small child instead of his boyfriend.”
“It shows that he cares Takuya,” murmured Kanon, slugging back more coffee, this time savouring it in his mouth instead of letting the liquid glide down his throat. “From what you have just told me, and also I’ve never seen Teruki act like this around anyone else before, well except for us of course, but back to the point, it does show that he really does care for you, and also that’s he’s scared of showing his true feelings because…” Kanon trailed off, feeling slightly uncomfortable.
“Because of what Non-chan?” Takuya’s eyes were filled with pleading and confusion - it made Kanon feel a little guilty.
“Well, his previous relationship, well let’s just keep it short and sweet. Basically Teruki fell head over heels in love with his ex, and she well took him for a ride. She toyed with his emotions and feelings, most days made him feel pathetic and useless whilst on other days she would just scream her head off at him, throwing whatever she could get her hands on at that time. Usually it was plates or glasses, one time she actually threw a knife at poor Teruki.
“Of course, because he was blindly in love with her, he just didn’t know how to react; he just took it because he didn’t want to lose her. Even after he found out that she was sleeping with other men he still stayed with her. It took him over a year to snap back into reality Takuya. We almost lost him because of her.”
Kanon felt so angry by the end of his speech that he was shaking with fury, splashing most of his now cold coffee all over the counter top. He looked at the small puddles of liquid and reaching forward with his free hand; he wiped it away then looked at the shiny skin on his finger tips. He watched them glisten underneath the light for a few seconds then wiped away the droplets on his leg.
“Wow,” Takuya murmured. “I just don’t know what to say to that Non-chan.”
“It’s ok. You don’t have to say anything.” Kanon shrugged, placed his mug down on the counter and folded his arms and leaned them on the surface.
“You do know I would never do any of that to him? Don’t you Non-chan?”
“Of course I do Takuya. I know that you could never hurt anyone, not even a fly. But remember it’s not me you have to convince…”
“I know. Thank you Non-chan,” Takuya drained the last of his dregs from his mug and stood up to go. “Are you going to stay in here then?”
“For a while yes. My apartment is too suffocating for me to stay in twenty-four seven!”
“Okay, Non-chan. I think Yuuki will be here soon, he said something about practising but you know what Yuuki-san can be like!” he laughed, his whole face lighting up making Kanon see why Teruki fell for him - the innocence, the laughter, the purity that Takuya simply possessed.
“Unfortunately I do Takuya,” he laughed back and waved to the guitarist who was now retreating to the door. He watched him stop and the turn to face him.
“You should follow your own advice, Non-chan.”
“My own advice?” Kanon was confused. What was Takuya talking about? “But Takuya, I didn’t give you any advice…”
“You did Non-chan… it’s just hidden that’s all,” Takuya gave Kanon a mysterious smile then spoke once again. “Everyone deserves a second chance,” and with that he left the room, leaving Kanon feeling more puzzled than ever.
Did I really just give him advice? Kanon thought to himself, rubbing the left side of his temple with his fingers. But I guess he is right about giving everyone a second chance, including Miku. I’ve been avoiding him since I’ve left the hospital, ashamed of myself for making him break up with his girlfriend. It feels like my fault he did that, but then again, he did lie about her. Why am I so confused all of a sudden? Damn Takuya. That’s the last time I’m helping him out.
He remembered the day that he had woken up, just after Bou had told him everything about Miku’s feelings for him. He and Miku had talked, and even though they both loved one another, they did not want to take things too quickly. There was too much pain they needed to overcome first.
They had needed space and time apart from each other, to think about what they really wanted. So they had agreed to not be together just yet, and keep their relationship professional and friendly while they sorted themselves out.
And now... he really wanted Miku. Didn’t he? Even if a tiny part of his brain was afraid, doubtful of how things would work out.
Kanon stood up gingerly from his seat and wandered over to the comfy sofa where he snuggled down into it’s plushness. He sat there blinking for a few moments in his own world and it was the sound of the door opening again when he snapped back into reality.
“Good afternoon Non-chan!” sang Yuuki. “It’s such a beautiful day no?” he skipped over to the other sofa that was opposite Kanon and bounced onto it, crossing his legs and pulling his hat down further over his head.
“I wouldn’t know Yuuki. I’ve kind of been stuck inside to be honest.” Kanon blushed, ashamed to admit that.
“But Non-chan!” wailed Yuuki “The birds are singing and the flowers are blooming! It’s too beautiful to be stuck inside here!”
“That is true Yuuki-san. Maybe I should go for a walk then and leave you to your practise, you must concentrate. I cannot disturb you.”
“Okay Non-chan,” Yuuki went back into his sing-along voice and bounced off the sofa and towards his keyboard, leaving Kanon to make his own way out.
He ambled out into the sunlight and blinked at it’s brightness. Yuuki was right, it was such a beautiful and he was holed up in that studio all day. Damn.
“Everyone deserves a second chance.”
Takuya’s words rang throughout Kanon’s head like an echo through a corridor.
“Damn him to hell,” he murmured as he pulled out his cell phone and went into his contact list.
He pressed the call button when he found the contact he was looking for. He took a deep breath as the person on the other end answered.
“Hello Miku. Can you meet me in the park in 30 minutes please? There’s something we have to talk about…”
And here it is~! Sorry for the long wait darlings! Final chapter will be posted soon!!!
