I was going to wait but...

Apr 17, 2006 08:02

I was going to wait to update this until after I found out (which could even be in the next couple of hours) but I was bugged by a certain someone yesterday *cough* Nelle *cough*  lol  so I figured maybe there are others out there who would like a more indepth view of how the weekend went.  On about Thursday I finally decided to tell Lisa that I was going away this weekend to spend Easter with a friend so that she didn't "worry" about me.  *rolls eyes*  She asked if I would be leaving Friday or Saturday and I said, "Well, my friend actually got me tickets so I'll be leaving around 11 Saturday morning."  Her response was, "Aww, that was sweet of her!  Have a great time!"  *insert icky crawly feelings of unease*  So Saturday morning I was hoping to be able to leave without having to talk to her, but just my luck she was down in the kitchen when I came down.  She eventually said, "So, where are you flying to?"  *Oh GREAT* So I told her the truth and said, "Newark."  She then goes into this spout about how Newark is the "arm pit" of the universe and how much she hated going through Newark to get home while she was at Princeton.  Then she said to go visit Princeton if I got the chance because it was definitely worth seeing.  *rolls eyes*  (insert a short time of silence) Then she asked me if my friend lived in New Jersey.  This is where it got tricky, but luckily I had just talked with Beth about a certain situation so I said, "No, she lives in Virginia, but her sister has an interview for an internship this summer in New Jersey so since the two of them are going to be on their own for Easter they asked if I wan't to come out and visit with them."  To which she replied, "Aww, that was nice of them, so you'll all be together.  That's great!"  *almost threw up my nerves were so shot by this point.  Not only was I going behind her back to interview with another family, not to mention I was GOING on an interview(!), but I also had just lied to her. =S*  I know that shouldn't bother me, but it does, so just deal with it.  =P  So anyways...  She then started talking to me about divorce and whatnot, which was odd, so thankfully the cab got there.  lol  Though... that wasn't exactly any better.  lol  I seriously thought I was going to die.  I mean I have issues with other people driving to begin with, but he was going AT LEAST 20 over the speed limit no matter what it was... and I don't know how many red lights we ran!  So a ride that should have taken 35-40 minutes took us 20.  Which, ya know, helped out my "CAN'T BE LATE" worry.  Called and talked to Beth and Kathleen while sittin' at the airport for those couple of hours 'cause instead of it taking 45 minutes to get my ticket it took about 3 (two of which I spent trying to figure out how the damned machine worked... lol) and instead of it taking a half hour to get through security it only took about 5 minutes.  So I tried to relax on the plane, but I was actually nervous as hell (so it's probably good that I had the entire row to myself), first off, I get down to the plane to board and it's literally the SHORTEST plane I've ever been on.  I've been on the ones where they have 2 seats on one side and only 1 on the other, but *I* could barely stand up straight on it.  Had a slight panic due to claustrophobia shit, but staring out the window helped with that, and secondly, I REALLY REALLY REALLY wanted this to work out, so that made the nerves that much worse.  The view was amazing though, we went over the hilly/mountainy area.  B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L!  =D  Get to the airport and called Lori (the other family mom) and let her know what baggage corral I was at.  Few minutes later she calls back and we figured out that for some reason my plane had landed in a different terminal than it was supposed to *shakes head*.  But, finally meet up and she hugged me (which was cool I think more because she seriously looks like my Aunt Cil, ya'll remember the lady from the trips to Gwinn??  Yeah, her).  And Claire (the 10 year old) had come with her and she is SOOO cute!  So we talked and drove back to their house (which is amazingly normal looking... lol), the area is just GORGEOUS!  Get to the house and Alex (the dad) and John (7 year old) had gone to the store, so I unpacked (basically just set my stuff in the room which is on the small side, but I guess it's a typical bedroom size, they just have HUGE furniture in there.  If there was just a twin or even better, just a futon, and a vertical dresser it would be a lot bigger.  Right now there's a Queen size bed and a huge horizontal dresser and two bedside tables in a spot that's smaller than a dorm room... lol But she did say that they were planning on redecorating it so yay!).  Let's see... Talked with Lori for a bit, then with Alex for a bit, then we decided to go get icecream (BEFORE dinner... *shocked*) and walked around downtown for a bit.  They showed me Drew U. campus which is AWESOME!  Went back to the house and on the way some of John's friends were having a lemonade stand so we just dropped John off and told him to walk home *WHAT?!  That would NEVER happen here!*.  We went back and Claire, Lori and I decorated eggs for Easter, then Claire and I went outside for a bit.  Around 7 we went out to dinner, had a nice time doing that.  The kids are just unbelievablely... nice.  lol  They just seem like normal brother and sister.  If Claire's being "mini-mom" John will either say, "Claire!  You're not my mom."  Or stick his tongue out at her or just roll his eyes, OR the most amazing thing was that he would actually LISTEN to her!  I kept expecting the chasing and hitting and name-calling, but it didn't happen.  And if their parents said the topic was done, then it was actually done and they both either started a different conversation with each other or someone else.  They didn't sit there pouting or throwing a fit or demanding that the other be punished because they "hurt their feelings" *rolls eyes*.  It was all so... normal.  So after dinner we went back to the house, the kids went to take showers, which I didn't have to help with AT ALL!  And then I went up and read to them before bed... I read them out of their Calvin and Hobbes (sp?) comic book!  That's also something that would never go over here... I mean even as I was reading it there were words like, "idiot" and "stupid", and I'd look around waiting for someone to say something because that would have been grounds for "a talking to" if I had read those to Sam or Rebecca.  OH, and they actually UNDERSTOOD the comics, whereas I know Rebecca would have been like, "I don't get it, they need a manual for this!"  *rolls eyes*  So then I said G'Night and left the tucking in to their parents.  After they came back down I helped them hide the Easter eggs and then went to bed.  Sunday morning I didn't want to intrude on their family-time so I stayed in my room till it sounded like they were done and then went out.  Lori and Alex decided they were going to go to the store around noon, so until then I played a few games with Claire, went in and had a small convo with John, but to be honest I felt kinda lost 'cause it's really just a relaxed kind of household.  But then Claire and I went outside and I showed her how to play Frisbee Golf (well, an on-the-spot version since they didn't actually have a Frisbee Golf cage.  We just used their soccer net instead and the course was just going around the house once.  After a couple times of that we finally talked John into coming out and playing with us, and at first he was grumpy (he's very much the "stay inside and play with my army men or X-Box kind of boy) he got into it and ended up having fun.  Then, because they kept hitting the porch and I didn't really want to kill the house we stopped playin' that and I taught them how to play 500 (ya know, the game where you throw the ball in the air and call out a number and whoever gets up to 500 points first gets to be the thrower).  They seemed to like that one too.  Then it was time for lunch and during lunch they got to watch TV (!!!).  OH, yeah I forgot to mention, Saturday night, while we were doing the Easter eggs, Lori let Claire watch that "Honey we're killing the kids" show... Lisa would have NEVER let the kids watch that!  And then John was like, "Dad, you're not going to let me watch the History channel are you?"  *shocked*  But anyways, during lunch Lori and Alex left to go to the store, so when we finished up, we cleaned up and then went down to the park.  We tried a longer course of Frisbee Golf, tried playing 500 with a frisbee... lol and then ended up playing Monkey in the middle.... apparently Claire likes being in the middle, but all-in-all it was fun.  =)  We spend probably 45 minutes at the park and when we got back the kids wanted to see if their friends could come over, and since their parents seemed so relaxed about everything I agreed.  About 5 minutes later Alex and Lori came back.  We let the kids play, I packed up my stuff and then it was time to leave.  I said goodbye to John and he said, "I had fun with you."  And then said goodbye to Claire who was like, "Awww." ran over to me and hugged me.  *it was cute* Lori drove me to the airport and we talked a bit about the interviewing process and she said that they would get back to me within the next couple of days because they want to make sure they make the best decision.  Then she dropped me off and I was on my own again.  I'd figured out the electronic ticket machines on my way there so it only took me a minute to get it (rather than standing in the LONG line like everyone else), only took about 10 minutes to get through security and then I had about 2 hours to wait.  Or so I thought.  Our boarding time arrived so we got on the plane, they went through the whole safety thing and were just about to close the cabin door when the pilot came on the speakers and said, "I'm sorry everyone, but there is such bad weather in Chicago that there's a backup for landings so we're going to have to deplane and there will be about a 3 hour delay."  OMG.  So everyone got off and I called people to complain about it 'cause I was tired.  =P  Then I remembered that this happened the last time I was flying into Chicago.  When I went for my original flyout for the Chicago interview the plane had a 3 hour delay, then ontop of all the other signs I've had... I'm just NOT supposed to be in Chicago.  lol  HOPEFULLY this job works out, but if it doesn't, I now know what area I want to be in.  I want to be in the NYC area.  Doesn't have to be IN NYC, but I want that area.  So while I'm still not sure how it's going to go, I'm glad for the fun I had.  =)  Alright, that's enough for now.  I'll have a short update when I find out the results.
