I put in my DVDs last night. I happened to open Batman Begins first, so after some arguing with the DVD due to scratches, it started.

Oh my god, the suckitude. I mean, Liam Neeson and Michael Cane (I think that's who Alfred was) were fantastic. And I know Christian Bale can act, because he was fantastic in Equilibrium. But here? Oy. This is the first movie in a LONG time that I've just turned off because I was so bored. I might try giving it another go tonight when I'm somewhat less cranky, and I imagine I turned it off right where it got better (when he, y'know, goes back to Gotham). But regardless, pacing is an issue.

And Katie Holmes makes my eyes bleed. There is a long list of fairly fantastic young actresses out there. She is not on that list.

But Liam Neeson as a ninja? Teh awesome.

So I stopped it and put in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix instead. I enjoyed the movie a great deal, though I suspect massive chunks of story were sacrificed for the movie. It was even entertaining enough that I actually thought about trying the books again. (I pulled out sis' copy of the first one years ago, read the first chapter (I think) and put it back because of felony adverb abuse. I've heard she improves somewhat in the later books. God, I hope so. Save the Adverbs! *waves sign*) Of course, the only way I am doing so would be if I can find them used. I'm not interested enough to actually waste the money to buy brand new copies.

But I will never, EVER join mainstream Potter fandom. *shivers* Some of those people are deeply disturbed and boy do they like their shipper wars. Blech.

Another fandom I'm thinking of delving into with the help of the used book store is the DS9 novels. I was never a very good Trekkie, but I enjoyed that show, and some of the novels I *have* read are pretty good. Fallen Heros was downright fantastic, actually. Plus, they usually have a massive selection of them at the bookstore I frequent. Plus if I get into them, I can support an author I like as a general human being. (And at least one that I think is a snotty little ass, but that can't be helped.)

I seem to be on another kick where every new book/author I try out ends up sucking. On a whim, I bought this Celtic-mythology based fantasy novel. Mistake. While the story as outlined on the cover sounds quite cool, the execution has been mediocre at best. It's also one of those authors who thinks that randomly throwing in Gaelic words makes their novel about Celtic mythology. *bzzzzzzt* Wrong! This annoys me greatly. Guess what's going to end up in the "Take to bookstore" pile?

Bah. Bored. And I'm not even halfway through my day.
