More on the Scythian exhibition. I saw a lot of this stuff in the Hermitage 20 years ago. The reconstruction on the mummy is very interesting.

This exhibition looks interesting! I saw a lot of this material in the Hermitage 20-25 years ago, including the tattoos. It's wonderful! Our ancestors inhabited a very different imaginative/intellectual universe. We have evidence of similar practices in more recent times in various places (17-19C Balkans, which fuelled the literary vampire myth), even in N America in the late 19C, when outbreaks of TB were associated with vampirism.

This cute little dinosaur did, and got its tail stuck in amber... The reconstruction is adorable. And the feathers are fascinating.

The media is covering this alleged Robert de Brus facial reconstruction.

First objection:
There is no good evidence that he had leprosy (see Kaufman and MacLennan) The skull from which the cast was taken in early 19C shows a Lefort 3 fracture, and no nasal erosion. Any palate signs cannot be seen because of the nature of the cast.
