I hate having a cold. It came on suddenly two days ago. I'm hoping I'll be better for the dinner I'm going to tomorrow night with Amelia Atwater-Rhodes and a couple other people from her message board. Did I mention that I occasionally love being a New Englander? This is one of those times. I'm one of maybe four or five board regulars who live in the same area she does, and she only has time for New England book signings, so I'm one of a lucky few. I'm also pretty psyched to meet the other two people who are going.
Back to the cold. Buddhist philosophy tells us that all suffering is temporary and transient. Focusing on the moment and the sensations associated it--simply feeling and being without actually thinking--are supposed to help lessen suffering. This is one of the times I want to say "f*ck that", but I won't, because it actually worked...for a few moments, while I was driving and the crescent moon was in front of me and a gorgeous sunset behind me (wish I had a camera pointed at my rear-view mirror). Anyways, I really want to feel better soon. Today was better than yesterday, after all! Tomorrow has to be better than today.
My kitty got spayed today...she's sleepy, but not cranky. That's a good mood for her. And now she won't keep us up all night yowling when she's in heat! Chaos, we're being cruel to be kind, dearheart.
A couple people in the band decided to start a bi-weekly newsletter (Tues and Thurs). The first "issue" came out today, and it was interesting to read. Some deep thoughts from a sophomore trombonist! And I learned a little more about how he thinks. I think I'll keep track of the newsletters.
