good day

I've had a good day today. My class astonished me by nominating me for two categories in the superlatives--most likely to be famous and most unique personality. I hadn't really expected either one. And I never realized that I was considered a "unique personality." Even though I've been here since midway through sophomore year, I did not expect many people to nominate me for anything, since I don't consider myself popular. Still, I'm pleased.

The other good thing? I totally nailed Siciliano (2nd movement of "Prelude, Siciliano and Rondo"/"Little Suite for Brass; Op. 80") today. I've been having trouble with it. I'm the only euphonium player, I don't usually have the same part as anyone that I can hear, and at the beginning of Siciliano I have bassoon cues that are high for my instrument. Not only did I manage to play the entire piece more or less at the time I was supposed to, but I hit the opening bassoon cues where I'm the only one playing the melody line (with bass clarinets? on background). I hit the right partial, right notes, and played it through. Boo yah!

I also managed to sight-read the new piece that everyone else received yesterday (I didn't because I was absent). Not too shabby, if I do say so myself.
