Be Confident!

やった!
At last, I've finished my impromptu speech the other day.
We had an exam for our Communications III class, which is having an impromptu speech. We were asked to pick 3 topics each from the following categories: Current events, Pop culture, and Anything under the sun (usually an abstract term like pride, envy etc). Then we need to correlate all of them and make a coherent speech within 5 minutes. Our speech should last from 3 min. to 5 min. and 20 sec.

It was nerve-wracking because we won't know the topics beforehand. And if you're unfortunate, you might pick a topic that you don't know.

My topics were:
GENETIC ENGINEERING
TWILIGHT
and CONFIDENCE

Yes~ at least I know all of them (although I don't read Twilight, but I asked my friends about it because I thought it might appear)

Here's my speech (It's not really exact because I just tried to remember it)

Good morning to everyone!

Before I start my speech, I would like to try something.
**winks at classmates using one eye**
Do I look appealing to you?
**classmates laugh**
Why are you laughing?!

What does it take for a man to be PERFECT?
Does he need to be smart... like me?
Does he need to have good looks... like me? (They seriously laughed at this one. LOL)
Does he need to be responsible... like me?
Does he have to be rich... umm, never mind.
or does he have to have sex appeal... uh, yeah

Everyone wants to be perfect. I remember this Korean film entitled "200 Pounds Beauty". It's about a fat lady who wanted to be sexy so she underwent plastic surgery. See how people wanted to be perfect that they would undergo to such extremes.
What does it need for a person to be perfect? I remember the saying, "It's all in the GENES".
Genetic Engineering has been the talk of the town lately. They are modifying organisms to be perfect in some ways. Have you heard about the pest-resistant crops or the glow-in-the-dark mice? I know, their experiments are pathetic but it's cool, right?
So perhaps, people would consider genetic engineering as a solution to their problems. I wonder if the guys in this class would like to consider genetic engineering so that they'd be what the girls want: White, sexy, and how should I say this... sparkling?

Everyone likes Edward Cullen, isn't it?
I don't understand girls why they love Edward Cullen.
Well, perhaps back in High School, they do, but here in College, well, not anymore.
Honestly, I personally don't know Twilight. Yeah, I know I suck because I don't know Twilight, but yeah, I don't. I just know it's a romance story between a hunky vampire and a moaning flirt. And according to Professor Martin, it's a story that tickles our inner 'dalaginding'.

You know, you don't need to be someone like Edward Cullen to be loved. What you need is CONFIDENCE.
I know a lot of people who don't have good looks but is able to 'capture' a beautiful wife.
They have a saying that... Confidence is good (LOL. epic fail. I thought about saying a line from a song "Humanap ka ng pangit at ibingin mong tunay" meaning 'find an ugly lover and love him truly', but I realized it's not applicable so I ended up saying 'Confidence is good'.)

No one is perfect.
You don't need to be glow-in-the-dark to be loved.
You don't need to be pest resistant.
You don't need to have pallor to its finest.
And you don't need to be sparkling to be the perfect guy.
For a perfect guy is someone who doesn't drink your blood (Another epic fail. Only a few laughed)

Lastly, I would like to say, BE CONFIDENT!
because not all of us have good looks.
Thank you!

* 'DALAGINDING' is a Filipino term meaning 'a girl in her pre-teens'... but Filipinos have coined a new meaning for it, which is 'dalagang bading'. 'Dalaga' meaning 'unmarried woman' and 'bading' meaning 'gay'. (http://kaleidosthoughts2.blogspot.com/2006/05/dalaginding.html)
