Not feeling the iPad
Apple came out with a tablet today, iPad. It's shiny, but I'm not impressed. It's a giant iPhone. The iPhone is awesome because it fits in a pocket. And 64 gb (the largest capacity!) is simply not big enough unless all video is streamed and one limits the music collection stored on it. My music alone, which does not even represent the books of CDs I haven't bothered to import, is 25 gb.
If the iPad ran full-on MacOS, had a proper hard drive, and could function independent of a tether to another computer, I would order one tomorrow. It would seriously revolutionize my data analysis and word processing. As it is, the iPad is an expensive toy. For the money, I'd rather get a Kindle. Or put it toward a trans-Pacific flight ticket.
